Back up to speed.

Yup, I am back. We got power around 10 to 3 this morning. Little over 46 hours without power, and yet only a third of the fridge stuff had to be thrown out. Gotta love that.

I spent the last two days helping Dad rake, bag and haul leaves and limbs from the yard to the pile in the front. We've done about 95 percent of what needs to be done, and I have to put out some things from the inside and rearrange furniture this afternoon, but that won't take long at all.

Went out yesterday in search of ice and a cooler, and it took me ages to do both. Couldn't get ice but got a cooler, and found that by the time I got home, our neighbours from across the street had been able to get us some ice for the night (the wife works for Ryder, so her company was pasing it out to their staff and their families), so we were fine. I cleaned most of the freezer and did the fridge this morning, so that's done. I have a couple of small things in the freezer to toss out but not too much this time- I had the settings on high for both parts, so a lot of stuff was still cold and/or frozen solid (esp. the meat). We really lucked out and I was glad I decided to keep the freezer on ice cold for once. It saved us a lot of headache.

I have however spent the last two days in some sort of agony from all the lifting, bending and hauling, and of course *now* would be the time I start my period. *sigh* It never rains but it pours. I guess that explains my salt and vinegar chips craving last few days.....

I read one Raymond Chandler in two days, "The big Sleep". That was a damn good book. Now I am 2/3 through 'Farewell, My Lovely", and though some of language and deroggatort names irk me, it's still a fascinating read. I should finish it by tonight- less than 90 pages to go.

Apart from the few limbs we had, we were well off. Some people lost whole trees (and not small ones) and one not far from us is precariously leaning on a house, hanging by the literal roots. Now, we have an oak tree not far from my window, and it's high, but we've never worried about it because we keep it well trimmed and healthy and through it lost a number of leaves, it had no broken limbs or anything. (Mind you, this tree has to be at least 25 feet tall, as you can see it well over the top of the house.) Can't say the same for my neighbor's chinaberry tree- it's leaning quite a bit.

Mom couldn't get home last night as the airports were closed, so she will be coming in tomorrow afternoon, as I pretty much predicted would happen.

So. Life is almost back to normal. This time next week I will be getting ready for DM. I think I am gonna tease my hair out for it. And streak it magenta again. But for now, I have to haul a bag of garage to the curb, take some meds and pass out for a bit.
