I made dinner for Dad and went to the librtary to write, but when I got there realized that I left my compostion book at home. Yup, I was more than a little pissed ( Read more... )

I want those Marx Brothers and Duran Duran box sets! ::pouts:: But I only want the DD set if it contains the six minute version of Planet Earth.

I think the DD box set has the six minute version of 'Planet Earth' You can get can get it on an import called 'Stranger Behaviour' too.

I definately want the Marx Brothers films! I love those movies. And the Charlie Chaplin ones too.

I've never seen any of them, but I want to...especially since Jimmy and I were talking about them over dinner last night.

What's "Stranger Behaviour"? I remember getting my copy off the original first album (read: before they released ITSISK) vinyl. I'm still pissed they truncated it down.

'Strange Behaviour' is a import from the UK with all the dance/extednded versions of their songs up to the 'Wedding Album'. If you gott it off of that vinyl, and still have it, you have a collector's item, as it is worth a lot. I got it on vinyl on 'Carnival' several years ago.

I am still irritated that they never put out the 'original' verison of the 'Rio' album out on cd- it's always been the 'remixed' one. And my brother still has the vinyl that has the good verisons of of the songs on it.

The Marx Brothers- acquired tatse to some, but I was a little girl when I first saw them, so I have a love for them that goes way back.

!!! Need to rescue it from my garage then! Hope my ex-boyfriend's cats didn't shred the spine. Although I kind of had a hunch it would be valuable after ITSISK came out.

I always regretted never getting Carnival when I saw it long ago. Damn me being 14 and having limited parental-controlled funds.

How do I know whether I have an original or remixed version of Rio? Likely what I have is the latter, but it's still worth checking.

In my old age, I'm beginning to get into these old films. Especially since 95% of what's out there now--exceptions being Harry Potter and a smattering of art films and documentaries--is extreme crap.

I agree with you on some of the newer films. After LOTR and now with Harry Potter, I am not feeling too much else, the occaisonal action flick nonwithstanding.

As to the 'Rio' album, you'll know if the following songs are shorter and/or cuts out what sounds like part of the verse or chorus:

-'My Own Way' (more a funky, dance version)
-'Lonely in Your Nightmare' (shorter ending)
-'Hungry Like the Wolf' (single verison- after usual opening goes right into first verse)
-'Hold Back the Rain' (dance version)
-'Save a Prayer' (single version)

If any of those are on yours, you have the remastered version. I happen to have the US and UK pressings on vinyl, but I was lucky.

I got Carnival about 10 years ago, and it's not the original cover art, it's from around the 'Rio' era and not the 1st album. You can still get the 'Nite Romantics' edition if you have a few hundred to come off of.

I'm not THAT big a Duran fan, LOL.

My best guess from not wanting to venture out into my freezing garage is that I have the original version, but I wouldn't be able to tell you for sure without plopping it onto my Technics. I do recall "Save a Prayer" being a good five minutes or so though.

LOL As a Durannie withno disposable income, I fell you. :)

If you think that your verison of 'Save a Prayer' is the long verison, you've probably got what I call the 'good' version of 'Rio'. :)
