Oh, childhood.

You know, I was writing a five-page-long entry to post (that mostly consisted of how much I'm fangirling the DP arc of the Pokémon anime -- although I have a lot of problems with a lot of the characters), but unfortunately, that may have to wait for another day because I just went on YouTube for some music and found the video at the end, which reinforced for the second day in a row my guilty pleasure for children's cartoons. Not the new millennium children's cartoons, kids. I'm talking about children's cartoosn from when I was a child. Merrie Melodies is always a classic to cite, but there's also The Real Ghostbusters (which England!Kelly's tweets keep making me want to watch because I firmly believe it's one of the best -- if not the best -- 80's/90's cartoon series ever because of so many reasons).

On top of that, Inspector Gadget. Holy crap. Yes, last night, I was watching the 1999 movie on Cartoon Network. I'm a bit ashamed to admit it because, first off, a lot of fans say that it sucked because it deviates so much from the cartoon. At the same time, the first five minutes are silly as all crap, and it only gets sillier from there. Normally, slapstick for the sake of slapstick tends to give a film bad marks in my book, but it pulls it off so well that it's actually all kinds of hilarious. Not to mention the quotes are actually kind of funny. ("Dump this idiot in the junkyard." "Yes, boss." "No, no, not that idiot! This one!" "I wish you'd be more specific. There's an awful lot of idiots around here.")

The cartoon itself... I grew up with that thing, and I think it established my love for futuristic sci-fi. I mean, really? The idea of a half-cyborg, half-human embodiment of the term "deus ex machina"? All kinds of epic right there. Not to mention Penny predicted the future with her computer book, which I don't think anyone who's seen the series would deny they would totally want, am I right? Sure, the show itself had its cringe-worthy moments because the titular character was, as TV Tropes aptly put it, too dumb to live, but it was still hilarious and still an awesome concept (although totally riffing on both Get Smart and Robocop at the same time).

The second reason why I hesitate about mentioning this (despite, you know, being openly fond of things like Pokémon and The Real Ghostbusters anyway) is because it seems like there's a lot of love for more mature movies and that sort of thing in my age group. I mean, holy God, yes, I will fangirl Star Trek forever, Doctor Who is definitely an interesting series and my cup of tea (although for some reason, I don't watch it that often, probably because there's so many episodes), Torchwood reminds me of Buffy, and I secretly adore Doctor Horrible (but not on the level where I have all of the songs memorized and am watching How I Met Your Mother because of Neil Patrick Harris... though I do like Harold and Kumar Go To White Castle for that reason... and because Harold is Sulu, and Sulu is hot). Not even going to touch Repo, though. It's not my cuppa. But in any case, yes, my friends fangirl the adult stuff, and I fangirl the kid's stuff. It feels weird because it's consistent, and it's really just occurred to me this week. Maybe this says a lot about me on a vaguely emoangst level? *shrug*

And third, it's actually a pretty stupid movie (on a literal level, no less -- as in, everyone in the entire film with the exception of Brenda, Penny, Claw, and the Gadgetmobile are incompetent) if you think about it for too long. It's like a slightly smarter stoner movie aimed at children.

Anyway, the song of the day, which will probably be stuck in my head forever. I've got to admit this show also had its fair share of really awesome tracks, ohmygod.

...And this is not my reading. Or my paper. (On the positive side, I'm not on Facebook right now.)
