Desired by God

Some disruptive dreams during a nap yesterday. Apparently my subconscious has some things it wants me to deal with, and I don't know how I feel about that. Just going to let it be for now; I have a life to live in the present.

Watching fireworks was a fun diversion yesterday evening. Enjoyed seeing the light of some reflect off of the buildings downtown and the dozens of boats watching the display from Lake Union. The fact that I can see it all just by walking a block is very cool.

Looking forward to the (now shortened) work week ahead. Downtime was great, yet I stop knowing just what to do with myself after a while. That's a bit of a cop out, I suppose, since there's plenty of cleaning and the like I've neglected around the apartment. Regardless, it'll be good to get back to the office with people and work I enjoy.

Reading Jesus' prayer in John 17 this morning. It's one of my favorite passages. Eavesdropping on the Son's prayer to His Father is staggeringly powerful. It's not a teaching, not a set of principles or commands, not pretty words or wishful thinking. It is a prayer, and I have to believe that it will be answered in all the power and authority of the God of the Universe, because if the prayer of the Son is to be ignored, the rest of us might as well give up the ghost (literally).

And a part of this prayer is for me. For me! I could spend hours, days, or a lifetime wondering about God's will for my life (or pretending to), but in reading this prayer, I know-I know what Jesus prays for my life! And I know it is the very power of God that will bring it about, that it is this power Jesus has called to be at work in my life even now. Can there be any doubt that He will accomplish the work?

I am His, and He prays for intimacy with me. Though I may sometimes feebly ask to be closer to Jesus, He who is always faithful boldly asks His Father to bring me closer. He asks for me! This is how deep His heart runs for me: even thousands of years before I was born, even on the precipice of His suffering and death, He asks for me.

Father, the hour has come; glorify your Son that the Son may glorify you, since you have given him authority over all flesh, to give eternal life to all whom you have given him. And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent.
