The Hollywood Reporter reports that Dark Horse Entertainment president Mike Richardson (Hellboy, 30 Days of Night) will be producing a feature-length Emily the Strange movie. The film would tell the origin of Emily and her four cats, which were created by Rob Reger in the early 1990s. If you’ve never visited a Hot Topic before, Emily is a cartoon goth girl whose likeness is on every product imaginable, and is described as “a figure for female empowerment and anti-conformity” somehow. Dark Horse has released Emily the Strange comics since 2005. A director has yet to be announced, with the format (live, animated, both) dependent on the choice.
