He was having trouble urinating Sunday, although he wasn't in pain and was eating and lively. When he hit the litter pan 3 times in an hour Monday AM, I took him in to the vet. (Note to self: don't wait next time, cause if he'd been blocked instead of irritated, he would've died.) They needed a urine sample and didn't want to do a bladder tap since they were looking for blood and a tap might have caused blood, so they wanted to wait him out. And wait. And wait. And WAIT. He was so scared and stressed out that the little bugger was HOLDING IT. Even after water and subcue fluids. I went to see him last night--he was owly because they'd given him something to calm him down (didn't work) and when he finally recognized me, he wanted some major comforting--belly rubs, and he was kneading the cage wall. When I had to leave and shut the cage door, oh, his face. "You're leaving me here???" I felt so bad.
He still hadn't gone by 9 AM this morning. I called at 12:45 and he hadn't gone...and then I could hear the tech in the background, "FINALLY!" Of course he didn't go in the tray with the styrofoam pellets, he went on the floor of the cage. And then laid in it. The tests were inconclusive--no blood, no blockages they can feel, no tumor cells or crystals in the sample. So they're calling it stress (I've been moving furniture and having a lot of strangers in the house the last few days) and sending him home with a slight diet change and urine acidifiers to get rid of any possible crystals. "Oh, and he needs a bath, but you can't give him one because it'll stress him out. He's been really unhappy here." NO SHIT. I think I'll go get some of those pet wet wipes and hope he cleans himself up, maybe with some help from Chiaro, who has been super clingy while he's gone. Zia doesn't give a damn but that's no surprise, the way Chezzie bullies her. The furniture's been moved again while he's been gone and that will probably stress him, but I can't help that. I'll just try to have lots of Chezzie cuddle time tonight.
