Warning: long entry! It's 8:15pm on Saturday night and I feel like I haven't stopped since Thursday morning. I've had such a busy week that I haven't managed to start ANY of my job application. Sigh. Right now I can hear fireworks coming from somewhere further south down the coast. Mum said they were going last night as well, but I can't figure out where they're coming from. I know they do stuff at the Mullaloo Beach Hotel on Sat nights, but the fireworks look too far away for that and they'd be too close to residences. The only place I can think of is some school oval or something.
Anyway so Thursday morning I went down to Suzy's house (my sister) to help her sort out her house for Dad's 60th birthday party, which was last night. It took ALL Thursday AND Friday for us to get it completely ready and on Friday we also had the help of Matthew's parents and Chris. SO much work to do, but we got it done.
So we had the party last night and it was a huge success. Dad knew about it but didn't know any more details other than when and where. We invited about 30 of his long-time friends, some who he hasn't seen in ages. We had drinks and nibbles and then roast lamb and chicken for dinner with all sorts of yummy salads. Then before we had dessert, we had a little presentation.
Grant had videotaped Mum doing a speech for Dad's party, since she couldn't be there. So we put Mum's speech on a DVD and played it for everyone between dinner and dessert. In her speech she mentioned all these song titles of songs that had come out over their lives and worked them into a sort of "life story" speech. Because most of the guests were their age and also from the UK, they understood and laughed in appropriate places. It was a great success!
After that, I presented Dad with a book that Mum and I had spent all week trying to secretly make (which was hard when Dad was home all the time and we were confined to Mum's room). Anyway the book was an album with the lyrics of the songs in "life story" order with photographs collaged around the outside from the different stages of our lives. So there were us as kids being born, family holidays, major events etc... He loved it!! We also had a screensaver running with pictures of Dad from birth to now. That was a big hit with everyone also. Dad was overwhelmed. He was so happy with it and was grinning from ear to ear. He made a little speech and thanked everyone for coming and us for organising it and all that. I think he was very happy with it all :) Everyone had been given a glass of champagne so we all toasted him.
Then we had dessert. YUM. There was a really yummy cake from Miss Maud's that we put "Happy 60th Birthday Tony" on and there was 2 pavlova rolls (oh sooooo yummy!) and a BEAUTIFUL Tiramisu made by Matthew's mum. Granny made a yummy trifle and her boyfriend (hehe) made some nice fruit salad also. There was one more dessert but I can't remember what it was but they were all divine.
Then just general tea/coffee chitchat time until people began to leave and the party wound down around about 11:30-12. I stayed overnight cause I was going to Suzy's dress fitting today, so Suzy, Matthew, Grant and I sat around chatting and Grant left at about 1:15 and went back to the hospital to be with Caroline, arriving at 1:30am dressed nicely but looking scruffy. He said he thinks he scared the nurses, lol.
Andrew (Suzy's baby) must have woken up about 3 times during the night crying, but it wasn't very loud or intense. Apparently Suzy got up to feed him at 5:30am but I must have been asleep. I got up at 9 and we cleared up the rest of the stuff (there wasn't much left, a lot of the clearing up had been done the night before thanks to lots of volunteers!) and sat around chatting. Then Suzy and I went to visit Grant, Caroline and our new nephew! He's so beautiful. He's actually quite skinny and long. They've decided he's definitely called Joshua Lucas now :)
Afterwards, I went to a jewelery party that my friend from uni was hosting and bought some nice earrings, which I wore straight away. I had to leave early to go to Suzy's dress fitting, which was fine. The dress looks so nice!! :D I'm so glad I got the shade of blue that I wanted. Then we came home and I gathered up all my stuff that I'd brought for the party and left, getting home about 6:00. Whew!!!!!
Well if you read all that, well done!! It was quite a mouthful :D (or should I say 'fingerful' since it's typed??? lol)
