ONE OK ROCK (Fanaccount ; Vans Warped Tour 2014)

I went to see One Ok Rock at the Vans Warped Tour in Montreal on the 5th of July. Unlike for Block B, I didn’t have to spend 14 hours in a crowded bus, since the event took place in my town. I went to see them with my sister, again, and three of my friends.

We arrived around 10AM at the site of the Vans. We paid the 5$ donation thingy that guaranteed us an easy access to the site by allowing us to skip the waiting line and be the first ones to enter when the door opened. They opened at 11AM and we rushed to see where and when One Ok Rock were playing. (At the Vans, the setlist isn’t released until the day of the show. The setlist also differs from city to city.) One Ok Rock were the first band to play at the Beatport stage. We rushed there immediately.

We were so lucky because there was almost no one there yet. That way, we could get close to the stage, against the metal barrier protecting the stage from the fans. We were in the first row, center of the stage. I was really excited because I haven’t been this close to a stage since my first Thirty Seconds to Mars show. It then hit me, I was going to see Taka from very, very close.

While we were waiting for the show to start, some technicians came on the stage to make sound test and test the instruments. Tomoya even came on the stage to test his drums himself. After a while, Tomoya came back and start drumming. Everyone was screaming. He is really, really good with drumsticks in his hands. He introduced himself in English, saying: “Hi everyone! I’m Tomoya!” Suddenly, Ryota and Toru arrived. They joined Tomoya in his beat and started jamming on their guitar and bass. It was really cool. I appreciated it because, as we all know, a majority of the people looks at Taka during their shows. It gave the other members some time to shine too! They jumped on pillars that were close to the stage. Ryota didn’t wear a shirt, making us admire his tattoos. Toru’s hair was perfect, long and pale and in his face.

And then Taka arrived. I screamed so loudly when I saw him. He is so beautiful. It shocked me because I didn’t think he was that beautiful. He is so cute too and he has the cutest eyes ever. His eyes are puppy eyes, I swear. He is really tiny too and his tattoos are really cool. When he arrived on stage, the crowd went wild. I loved the atmosphere. It had been so long since I went to a rock concert so I was really happy to find that atmosphere again.

The first song they played was Deeper, Deeper. The crowd was really into it and even if I didn’t really know the lyrics of this song, I still sang along whenever I knew the lyrics. One Ok Rock are beasts on a stage, so full of energy. They kept jumping around and acknowledging the fans. Taka kept pointing fans in the crowd. It was awesome! After that, they did Nothing Helps. Since there’s a lot of English in this song, Taka made us sing along with us and even gave us a little time to sing without him.

After these two songs, they did a new song. I guess this song will be featured in their new album coming out soon. I unfortunately don’t remember the title of the song but I can say that it is a really, really good song, catchy and really rock and roll. I love it already.

The next song they did was Clock Strikes. It’s my sister’s favorite song of them so I was really happy they did it. I sang really loudly and was really into that song. So into it, in fact, that I broke the strap of my bag. I blessed heavens that I was against the barrier so I could let my bag against it on the ground so it wouldn’t bother me for the rest of the show. During the “Oh~ Oh~ Oh~ Oh~” part, Taka made us sing it really loudly and during a long time. Everyone was singing it with him and he smiled. His smile is so charming! At the end of the song, during his last line, Taka extended his hand towards the fans and I did the same! Because of it, he looked at me in the eyes for the longest time. What an eye contact! I was shaking because Taka actually looked at me!

After this song, Taka announced that they were going to play their last song of the gig. I was really sad because five songs weren’t enough. But then they started playing The Beginning and I forgot about my sadness because The Beginning is one of my favorite songs of them. I was so happy I started jumping and screaming. I sang really loudly every lyric of the song, even the lyrics in Japanese. The crowd was really into the song and Taka was visibly happy about it. And then, it happened. One second, Taka was standing on the stage with his mic in his hands. The other, I was right in front of me and my sister, standing on the barrier we were pressed against. It was crazy! I grabbed his ankle to make sure he wouldn’t fall and he sang in our face. I touched him omg. I TOUCHED HIM. I was freaking out. Unfortunately, I was on his right side, so the cord of his mic kept swinging in my face. But I couldn’t really mind as he was right there in front of me. Taka went back on the stage and finished the song before waving and leaving the stage with Ryota and Toru. Tomoya stayed on the stage just a bit longer, waving at the fans.

What I didn’t know was that One Ok Rock were holding a fansign after the show! We waited in line for the chance to meet them. Taka was the first one. I passed my cellphone to their manager, indicating that I wanted them to sign my cover. Taka did and I asked him for a picture. He agreed. I went close to him to take a picture with my friend’s phone. Taka passed his arm around me and I did the same, to get a bit closer. He smelled really good and he was so cute. I can’t believe it. He’s not that much taller than me (and I’m short) so I was really surprised. I thanked him for the show and the picture and he said that he was really happy. And then, he said that he would come back to Montreal soon. I really can’t wait. Ryota was next, but since he was behind the table, I couldn’t take a picture with him. I had a really small talk with him since, while I was taking the picture with Taka, he already signed my phone case. I still shook his hand and thanked him for the show. Same thing happened with Tomoya. I shook his hand and thanked him. He smiled at me and bowed a bit. And then Toru, who was last in line and not behind the table, smiled really warmly at me while handing me my phone. I took the opportunity that was in front of me and, after shaking his hand, asked for a hug. He said “of course”, with a smile and hugged me with his both arms. It was wonderful!

Even if my time with One Ok Rock was short, I am really happy! I still saw them live, had an awesome eye contact with Taka, met them and got their signatures, took a picture with Taka and hugged Toru. It was an awesome experience. I hope they liked their time in Montreal and will keep their words. I want them back in Montreal soon!
