So, back from the orthopedic doc. He saw what the hospital radiologist saw on the x-rays, and asked for more from his on-site lab, to see other angles. Anyway, after the next set of x-rays, he decided that it wasn't broken, I'd just popped a bunch of ligaments. It might have been better if it *was* broken, I might actually get over it faster if it was. Both he and the general practitioner were impressed with my bracing system. In fact the orthopedic doc told me if it was working for me that he wouldn't put me in anything else. I went, uh, I'm in PAIN. And after considering the fact I was walking 5 dogs he decided on a walking boot. It is actually pretty cool, I have a little inflatable mechanism to add pressure to stabilize the leg even more. (I also got pain meds)
Anyway to my shock, I'm supposed to keep walking the dogs, an hour a day is just fine. I'm supposed to work the foot up and down (nothing lateral) for the next two weeks. Then two weeks after that, I'm supposed to start drawing the alphabet with my toes with the boot off and I see him again in a month.
He made some comments about me having loose joints, (both ankles loose, not just the injured one and I can hyperextend knees and elbows), and he seemed to take it as much more of a matter of course that I did mess it up this badly because of the loose joints. I'm definitely going to ask him more about it next time, because maybe he has other ideas of what I should or should not do since my joints are naturally loose.
Oh and JT, he basically said, that as long as there is swelling, the more ice the better, he was thrilled with what we'd done so far. He was perfectly happy with what Steve did this morning and said to keep doing it.
The whole driving thing... it is going to be a problem. I still don't know what I'm going to do since it is my right foot.
