When you're down and out on life, there is no way of liberating your soul quite like the euphoria and release that comes from a drop-dead awe-gripping concert.
One toe has been the source of clenching, malignant black parasites porously eating my soul and heart, and I've felt pretty damn helpless in the whole game of life, so this concert tonight was so very necessary for my mental health, and I am entirely grateful for having the opportunity to see one of the most amazing--and not to mention, one of my favorites--bands with a pretty chill kid, my Christophilis. A calm, clear conscience emerged from a ravaging breast telling me to get a grip, all I needed to get by tonight was a little bit o' Muse lovin'. As for tomorrow...day by day.
I can't really give a play-by-play account because my intuition says that this memory will be recalled anyways in a very similar style to the concert, in short, subliminal spurts. Bada-boom: details that pop out at me memorable about the concert:
♠ Actually acting out and singing "Patty Cake" for Chris in line and then stopping half-way when a group of guys turned around and just stared before snickering...and realizing that, in fact, everyone in line was waaay older than me. Haha and making a remark about that very observation and having this older gent turn around and say jokingly, "Hey, you better watch it with that 'older people' thing." Obviously I was off to a great start, soon to be followed up with heartbreak at the fact Chris likes neither vegetables nor most seafood, gah.
♠Chris and I originally got General Admission but the Muse fans were primarily in their twenties and tall tooooo so it was super difficult to see the stage during the opening act [band, re: The Immigrants], and what with my toe situation and all, I was TERRIFIED someone would step on it out of the aggressive push-to-get-your-way concert frame of mind. So we migrated to the seating balcony and snagged some uninhabited seats--greatest call, because I was MUCH HAPPIER being able to see 100% of the stage [there were screens as well], and not being miserable from suffocation and imminent leg/toe death.
♠ Thinking Matthew Bellamy is perhaps the most sublime being alive. Whether it was the white suit-thing he wore, his PERFECT [and I really mean flawless] vocal & guitar & piano abilities, or the energy he exuded jumping around & commenting to the audience with his english-turned-irish accent, or most likely ALL OF THE ABOVE + a bag of chips, I really have admiration for that man that surpasses fangirl lusts of most other musicians I like. He's the real deal, musical prodigy yo.
♠ Dancing pretty much through all the Muse songs, singing along to "Time Is Running Out" and "Stockholm Syndrome" and parts of "Feeling Good." "You look like you're making out with your hand"/Purse thievery/Chris looking super posh in my bugger sunglasses/Smelling hecka accumulated weed in the atmosphere/Laughing at the same group of kids moshing nearly nonstop.
Being in a trance pretty much the whole concert, letting my subconscious absorb the music and allowing my conscious to have a damn-good time riding its highs.
♠ Trippy light shows, light reflecting off Matt's guitar [haha reminded me of a disco-ball or mirror surface because of that], red & white light flashing to imitate gunshot speed, purple light soaking, eccentric background visuals of retro video-game spaceships approaching the Earth in space, super balloons in the GA pit that unleashed red petals/confetti when popped.
STAND-OUT songs were def. "Butterflies and Hurricanes" as a strong, emotional, pulsating opener and then Knights of Cydonia as an epic closing number that had everyone amped up to the max. Chanting the chorus lines as they appeared on the background screen: No one's gonna take me alive/Time has come to make things right/You & I must fight for our rights/You & I must fight to survive.
Souvenirs: "Glass" rolling papers [being given out for FREE at the Live 105 booth, no joke, gotta love SF]
Red Lighter, which Chris spotted on the floor after most people in our area had left to exit the venue. He was going to keep it for himself but he said he likely wasn't going to use it soon and seeing that as an apt excuse for chucking it, I stepped up and took ownership of it.
Songs I remember clearly being played [& then + a mellow song, a song or two I knew but couldn't name off the top of my head]:
Newborn
Butterflies and Hurricanes
Hysteria
Sing for Absolution
Time is Running Out
Feeling Good
Stockholm Syndrome
Plug-In Baby
Knights of Cydonia
Without a doubt, best concert I have been to, ever. They're a hard act to follow. =)
