I happened upon this anime when I was actually looking for something else, I thought the cover looked interesting and the review intrigued me, and OMG! I devoured this anime almost in a night (when it got to 3:30am I had to call it quits and watch the rest of it just now).
I never heard of it before, or even seen any images from it. which is a little sad cos it's actually quite good. especially when it's already been dubbed. It kind of reminded me of 'Code Geass' (Which is du for a re-release really soon, something I'm happy about cos I REALLY want an official copy of it ^_~ I have a rent for it in my LJ somewhere when I watched it the 1st time :P) but without the mecha, explosions, high drama and head FUBAR's... which might sound a little dull, but 'Nabari no Ou' is packed with more angst and a main chara who's in pain a lot of the time :P (Which always makes my sadistic angsty heart happy) It also had a plot basis that reminded me of 'Mirage of Blaze' but wasnt so confusing, with family clans and special techniques. it was actually easier to follow, which was a reliefe! For a change is has an ending that didnt suck balls, it was a satisfying (if tearful) ending, which is rare for Anime. it was a little predictable, even if you want it to have a more happier ending.
Also in this, I was never sure if it was intentionally Shonen-ai (in the implied sense), mostly between Miharu (the main chara) and Yoite. I didn’t really consider it because I thought they were brothers from the opening of the anime, but even when that was dashed, my sad little yaoi heart still couldn’t shake the notion, even though I liked their almost innocent relationship :P
I still have to get my mitts on the manga, which I really want to start reading!
So if you haven’t seen the anime yet. go get your mitts on it! ^_^
Note: Ok... Literally just finished watching Nabari no Ou when I started writing this rant... and I didnt cry!... *gets a tissue* gods damn it!
Ok. I was scrounging around for AMV's on youtube for this anime, and saw LOTS of comments of ppl saying that Yoite come's back, or that he's still alive... WRONG! I just read the manga (that's totally different to the anime) and the only 3 people mentioned on the last page... are dead, Yoite amongst them. We only see Yoite at the end as Miharu (and everyone else) actually remembers Yoite again (as Miharu does carry out Yoite's wish to not exist in the manga.) It's kind of like a final farewell.
I think the anime ending must have been a final say, that Yoite is dead, to stop the speculation maybe.
I also find it a little odd that the people to die in the anime, didnt die in the manga and visa versa. I still prefer the anime version though, even if it did seem a little odd in places.
