flying female fighters

I don't know what happens in the autum, but I almost goes into a Valkyrie-period, manifested in two ways. I bring out my Wagner DVDs, and I read a lot about the German resistance (that worked with the codeword Valkyrie). I don't know if there are any connection between these two things, more than the name.

Anyway it seems as if Bryan Singers' film Valkyrie is finally set for a release of the 26th of December, at least in the US. I have so high hopes for this, in fact I haven't been able to watch the German film Stauffenberg for a long time because I think it has so many flaws and I feel like I want to wait for  good version of the story. Anyway just by looking at the cast list on IMDB I have some reactions to it.

1. I known this for some time, but I'm still going to have a big problem with David Bamber (mr Collins in P&P) as Hitler.
2. They seem to have gotten rid of Berthold von Stauffenberg, the brother of Claus, which is interesting since most of the members of the resistance met in his house the night before the 20th July. On the other hand the producers didn't have to worry about finding someone looking very much like Tom Cruise. Still a lot of the cast names don't have any role names beside them so it might be that he is part of the film.
3. There has been quite some talk about a grandson of Claus having a role in the film. He's playing the part of "von Treschow's assistant" this of course must mean that he plays Fabian von Schlabrendorff, and I think it's a shame if they have relegated Schlabrendorff to be an unnamed character.*
4. Tom Cruise, Kenneth Branagh and Bill Nighy in the same film. This might go up on the "worth seeing because more than two main actors are hot/handsome/fascinating"-list. On the other hand Cruise is going to be a cripple and they are all going to run around in German military uniforms, so that might take them off that list.

For those of you who are interested in the family links; the actor Philip von Schultheiss is the son of Konstanze von Stauffenberg. Konstanze was born in 1945, after the death of her father and while her mother was in a concentration camp. Also interesting is that I found on amazon.de that she has just written a biography about her mother, which would be very interesting to read. Amazon also suggested that people interested in that book would be interested in a new biography about Alexander von Stauffenberg, the third brother. Of course I'm interested, he's always forgotten since he's two brothers are so much more famous but the little I know of him is very fascinating. Also the fact the he was a history professor with the migration period as one of his specialities isn't too bad either. I have read one of his books on the subject though and it's a typical German academic text, so boringly written that you almost fall asleep over it. It's interesting though that it was written in the 1930's, but basically says that it's wrong to just follow a leader without asking question.
When it comes to buying the books mentioned under the cut there is only one problem. My economic situation is very bad at the moment, and even if it isn't that expensive it might end up with me choosing to either buy those books, or go on with Princess Leia costume. The cost of the fabric for the dress would be about the same as the books.

When it comes to the other Valkyrie, I saw that the local library here as a CD with Nina Stemme singing Wagner. I'll think I'll go and check it out ASAP.
