Granite and other related crystalline rocks is often the by-product of mountains building. Because granite is very resistant to weathering, it frequently forms the core of eroded mountains. For example, Yosemite National Park in the Sierra Nevada where large quantities of granite are exposed at the surface. El Captain, a large igneous monolith located In Yosemite National Park. Granite bedrock is exposed over much of the park.
