Home Again, Home again... ^_^
Just returned from southeastern Mn, where The Bandit, The Kitten and I took part in the American Cancer Society Relay for Life for the county my hometown is located in.
We've always attended because my dad was one of the founders of the event. After he passed away in 2005 I was asked if I would like to take his place on the Founder's team. I said yes, and it has become an important annual family event for us. It's always a very fulfilling but emotionally draining experience, as I have lost both of my parents to cancer (my mom to lung cancer, and my dad to leukemia). As hard as it is to relive what happened with them, this is the best way I can think of to honor their memories and to help people the way they did when they were alive.
The county has a total population of around 17,500. Last year we had 48 teams, and raised $137,000.
This year we had 58 teams and 635 walkers. Our goal was to raise $143,000
We raised $149,108.

This was a much needed and uplifting thing to experience after the horrors of the Minneapolis bridge tragedy. I will post pictures of the Relay tomorrow after I get them uploaded to my PC. Next year I'm going to do an online ACS website/blog. ^_^
Edit: It was gratifying and a sign of hope to see that there were more luminaries with the names written in red ( denoting a survivor) than in black (in memorium) this year. ^__^
