Title is referencing that god awful Adam Lambert song that I'm ashamed to say I might find catchy.
Though, considering the state of pop music these days, if given the choice between listening to Ke$ha talk about boys trying to touch her junk, junk, and watching Adam Lambert do his best impression of Britney Spears circa "I'm a Slave For U", I'll pick the latter, thanks.
Anyway, how was my weekend?
Extremely substance abusing.
Friday
Devon and I took a lovely walk onto Granville Street, to take a look at the fun little artsy things set up for the Olympics. Part of me is excited for how alive downtown is going to be for the Olympics, but part of me feel like a crotchety old lady who wants all those young people to shut the fuck up.
Very muchly looking forward to the free concerts, though. Will definitely be trying to see Wintersleep in Surrey @ Holland Park, and Deadmau5 in Yaletown. Sucks that BNL and Great Big Sea will be performing and I haven't got tickets to see them :(
Did I mention Devon and I stood outside the VAG for 20+ minutes staring at this video installation of a very pyrotechnic, hazardous materials goldberg machine? Yeah. We're geeks.
Afterwards, we hung out at HMV, browsing music. I lamented that Ibiza/Baeleric trance probably doesn't sound anything like what *I* think it sounds like (due to my dated knowledge of electronic music). We went downstairs to the DVD section, looking for something to pick up, and Devon asked
"What the hell is up with Criterion Collection and why is it so expensive?"
I tried to explain it to him, and in the end, he dumbed it down to
"They're like the special edition, reissue version of classic movies!". I'm never impressed when Devon associates anything I'm passionate about, with Transformers -_- However, it was an apt description...
Went home. Argued about whether we should pick up dinner or eat in. Compromised. Devon let me blaze and we had dinner downstairs at Pacifico. Had an arduous time (again), trying to order my usual aglio e oilio, the way Lombardo's used to make it. I swear, if it wasn't the *only* place nearby to get that kind of pasta, I would never eat there.
Saturday
Got up insanely early (for a weekend), to attend Indie I Do. First in line. We assuredly received our swag bags. I think there was better stuff in it last year :/ Met up with Vonne and Eric, ran into Joan Pham (aka
Joanie Gyoza of Screaming Chicken fame) again, ran into Desi (Jesus Christ her engagement ring was luuudaaaa...) bought a pair of panties that say "kitty" on them. Over in about an hour, but still a good time. Totally worth it, just for the swag bags.
Had lunch at
Three Lions Cafe, another "gastropub", on E. Broadway. It was...okay. Probably only "okay" because of what I ordered. For whatever bizarre reason, whenever I see "Ploughman's Board" on a menu, I can't resist ordering it. I can't get enough nitrates in my system it seems :/ That being said, it was an okay assortment of charcuterie. Too many pickles, though, including something pickled that looked like intestines. Thank God there was no head cheese :S
I've still never had a better P-board than the one at Elephant & Castle. Cold roast beef :9
Devon was choked that his benny was on cawrnbruhd and not on an engrish muffin. So picky.
Everyone vetoed my choice to stay at home, while Devon checked out Toys R Us, so instead we all went. Then we went home and I forced everyone to play with my book. That's not a euphemism for anything, I swear. I love my book. Conversational crutches ftw.
The evening consisted of my attempting to bake some pork chops with apples and turnips. It was a half-fail. I mean, it tasted good, and I love turnips, but I really should have seared the chops first. I think it could have used a little bit of that maillard reaction. Oh well, at least I learned something!
We drank another bottle of wine! I have decided that the shiraz cabernet was far more palatable than the merlot. Had less alcohol content too, which meant I drank more than I should have. Yay, snooty drunkenness! Oscar Wilde would have been proud. I think next time, we shall try a white wine!
Devon and I also shared a bath. We listened to Vampire Weekend, and talked at lengths, rather pretentiously, about the current "renaissance" of music. All the while soaking in pink, flowery water. Devon's a hipster. He's allowed to do these things without maligning his manhood.
Sunday
Devon and I spent the entire day, a tangle of limbs in bed, on the couch and then again in the bed. Eating, cuddling, watching TV and napping. On a personal note, I spent the entire day disgustingly high.
Considering that every day last week, I blazed when I got home from work...Hmm :/ Methinks I need to cut down a wee bit. Mayhap.

I totally forgot, I wanted to write about Avatar. Tyler and I finally got to see it, after trying to get into sold out shows, 4 weeks in a row. Tyler forced me to go, in retribution for making him see "Ninja Assassin", many moons ago. I went into that movie, with very little expectation, and honestly, I enjoyed it as much as "The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus".
That being said, while I would normally use adjectives to describe a movie, I feel like the movie is best described by other movies.
Fern Gully. Pocahontas. Final Fantasy: Spirits Within. Princess Mononoke. Aliens (But that's only because Signourney Weaver is in it; along with Mech-y, Gundam looking things, reminiscent of that climactic scene in "Aliens" where she lays the beatdown on the titular alien, while that android looking thing gets ripped in half and pukes milk. Aaahh...horrible childhood memories/nightmares...)
So yeah. Very entertaining, yet extremely predicable movie, that did a splendid job subtly ripping off a bunch of other movies. Oh, and the 3D was very cool, but made me kind of motion sick.
And that guy from that Katy Perry video and Bones was in the movie. Odd surprise. Is he famous or something?
(Way early) Birthday party and quality time with the Alexander family this weekend. Looking forward to it.
