yeah so im back from my trip...
To fill all of you in, I went to Glacier National Park in Montana for a week. We stayed at some cabins there with a bunch of friends. As we were driving into the park, we saw the forest fire damage that was done to the area since the last time we were there. A fire had come within 500 meters or so of the cabins. The first day we were there, the caretaker gave us the "tour" of the place, showing us how to use the motor boats etc. We also got to use the fire pump which was a blast (HAH... no pun intended). After that we busted out the hiking boots and went for a quick walk up to Avalanche Lake. It was quite nice. We saw a deer and its fawn walking along the trail. A few years ago a moose stopped in front of us on the trail. I brought my whoopee cushion along to give passing hikers a pleasant little surprise. Nobody expects that stuff on a hike. The next two days, we stuck around the cabins, mainly hanging out at the beach, because the weather forecast predicted those would be the nicest days of the week. We did waterskiing, wakeboarding, fishing, swimming, sitting around a fire and poking it, things like that. Tuesday night, We sat around the fire and watched lightning flashes behind the hills. The next day, we got up early to go on a hike to Trout Lake, but just as we were about to leave, a giant thunderstorm rolled in and we decided to drive up to logan pass to see what we could do there. We decided to do another hike to hidden lake. But just as we got to the ridge that overlooked it, we saw another thunderstorm rolling in and quickly ran back to the visitor center :p. Right outside the visitor center on our way back, there was a group of rangers with one holding a shotgun. Apparently a grizzly had come really close to the visitor center. We didnt get to see the bear though. We did see some mountain goats and a bighorn sheep. We went back and went wakeboarding for a while before making another campfire at the beach. We also found out that the little children (5-9 years old) were all convinced republicans and vowed to kill John Kerry. This time, we saw another lightning storm but it came a lot closer and we had to go inside. Thursday was another rainy day and we just sat around for most of it until we drove into town to buy stuff. After that I went fishing again. On friday, we got up wayyy early to go on a huge hike. We drove a bit up the road to the pass and Hiked over the pass and down the other side. In all it was about 12 or 13 miles. We hopped on a shuttle to take back over to pass to our car, but they closed the road at the top of the pass because of an accident. A car had driven off the side of the road and fallen down the cliff so we were stuck at the top for a few hours. They had to take all of the people out by helicopter. It was depressing to hear the radio they had sitting in the visitor center (which they graciously kept open for the people stuck) because you would hear things such as "8 year old boy, no respiratory, no pulse" or "The driver is still in the vehicle". While we waited up there, we saw a grizzly wandering through the meadows and another big horn sheep right outside of the visitor center. Finally the pass re-opened around 9 and we got to our car to get home. We got back to the cabins to find everyone in the main cabin having a potluck, however, they were all worried about us because they were expecting us much earlier. When we were stuck up at the pass, there was no way of contacting them. No phone or cell. And the ranger radios were reserved for stuff having to do with the accident. Some of the people down at the cabins were able to call on a radio from the ranger station next door and make sure we werent eaten by bears or stuck on the trail somewhere :p. The next day (today) we drove home.
