tomorrow will be the last day of the 2008 julius baker flute master classes, and as much as i've enjoyed the classes, i'm glad that it's ending soon :P
it's tough sitting still for 3 hours straight twice a day. i've learned A LOT, though, and i am so so so motivated to practice more and cover a lot of standard flute repertoire that i'd never heard of before these classes. part of my motivation is from something dr. walker said the other day...rubbing in the fact that i don't have any substantial repertoire under my belt yet...i want to come back to her next summer and really impress her. *crosses fingers*

tonight i drove all the way out to goshen, ct to hear the dave brubeck quartet perform at the litchfield jazz festival. dad made a huge selfless decision and came with me so i wouldn't have to go alone...even though he strongly dislikes jazz. <333
we had a nice time and the quartet was fantastic. for their last song, dave went to the microphone and said that earlier in the week, a 10 year old boy came up to him and said that he wanted to play with him...so, they brought this 10 year old alto sax player out on stage and with the quartet's alto player he played "take 5" as the crowd cheered him and the 87 year old brubeck on. :) the kid even took a solo!!...how many 10 year olds have the skills/guts to get up in front of a huge crowd, play with a FAMOUS jazz musician, AND take a solo on one of the jazz world's most well-known tunes?! ...it was a great way to end the set :)
despite the cost of the venture and my long-lasting indecision leading up to the decision to go - i am very glad that i went. it was a neat chance to hear/see dave brubeck live.

i got a letter from dan martins today, in reply to the letter i'd written him a couple weeks ago...and, honestly, it was probably one of the best letters i've ever received from someone :P ...it's in close competition with a letter i got from sami at the beginning of the last school year, hehe...
every day i get more excited to go back to elon...

...but every day i get more anxious that i'm not going to accomplish everything i hoped to before the summer is "over" and i drive down to school.
in retrospect, i'm extremely pleased with how musical my summer has turned out to be :) ...the blue note, job as a music teacher, the flute master classes, litchfield jazz festival...

looking forward to the future...
