Sequel to Escaping Reality

It had been 3 weeks, and Len was no closer to figuring out what had happened to Jim. Hell, Len was a damned neurosurgeon. Shouldn't he know what was wrong? There were 27 different compounds that have an effect on memory, but after talking to Jim, and remembering all of his allergies, he was pretty much out of options on what he knew. All but 3 of them, Jim was allergic to, and of the 3, none of them gave a specific time period of memory loss.

"So you were in a car accident when you were... 16?" he asked Jim, once he'd been made his personal physician.

"2 days to 17," Jim said, looking at him curiously.

"What were you told about it... the records are spotty in that time at best."

"That right after I jumped out the window after beating Barry over the head with a lamp, I got hit by a drunk driver and thrown into a coma for over a year. Wonder what happened to the records."

"No clue," Len says, though he's desperate to yell 'There are no records! You were with me, living happy! Can't you just try to remember?!' Instead, he continues his questions. "How did you feel when you woke up?"

"Like I got hit by a truck. Bones, what are you asking this for?"

"Medical prerogative, Jim. Anything seem off when you came out of the coma?"

"No nurse, at home, and then there's this." Jim pulled out the ring, and Len couldn't help but pull his own off of his hand (he'd somehow managed to keep it as his wedding ring) and hold it up so that the two were next to each other. "Bones?"

"At one point, you called me Len," he said under his breath, replacing his ring and bolting from Jim's dorm. He'd done entirely too much.
