SO! I haven't posted in a while so I thought I would take this opportunity I have while NOT going to discussion (ugh physics is hard :() to post about some stuff! It’s LONG. I’m warning you, but chalk full of good stuff!

Secrecy.

Doesn't seem like it would be that difficult right? Apparently it is. Who knew?

I feel a little cheated. I think we often think that if we tell a secret it's not that big a deal because "they would have found out anyway" or "it doesn't really matter in the end" or "the leak won't be traced back to me." But sometimes they wouldn't have or it does or it will. I suppose that's all I have to say on that. Don't cause drama, it's stupid.

Spring Sing is tonight! I'm actually really surprisingly nervous. I haven't performed in front of that many people before when I can be discerned in a crowd. Usually I'm wearing exactly the same uniform as the 250 other people on the field and have a trombone covering a large portion of my face. But Spring Sing's no field show. I have to sing...and dance...and be generally peppy while trying not to let my heart explode! But I'm excited none the less. Just really nervous. I would really like to win. It would be a blow for sure, especially after we've been told so often "WOW you guys are great." I hope that's true and we didn't let it get to our heads.

I started really learning how to delegate and train the future social chairs or next committees or just letting people be involved in stuff they don't realize they're capable of. If no one had told me that I could plan social events and pushed me to run, I never would have thought about it, but I'm really glad that first person did push me for that. So! Park Day this weekend is entirely Courtney with a little emailing back and forth from me, but I'm glad she's so excited about it. Sports/PsiEK IMs will be all Jeremy, especially since he decided that we would be doing our own IM sports without consulting in advance and then didn't bring it up again. Announcing is weird. I just think that everyone should be in the know before the Chapter knows about it. I definitely wouldn't have said no though, I do have reservations.

We're doing a little too much social I think, not quite enough service. The social committee has changed basically into a service committee for the remainder of the year except the major events that are standard. We also will probably be changing the BBQ into a giant capture the flag game with possible food options? We'll have to see how the budget looks for that. But as far as service plans, we're going to get an A board and see if we can put on it flyers for all the events in Schoenberg. We've been talking about doing it forever, but just haven't. Maybe that should be a job for next year's social committee or music chair if we keep it!

National Leadership Symposium is this summer and I'm really excited. I need to buy my plane ticket...but I'm going! Oklahoma baby here I come? A couple of us are going to Stillwater before hand so we can see the District history and Chapter histories and all that jazz! I'm very excited. I didn't realize until yesterday that it's not joint, so I really am going by myself as of now, though James is considering going. It's going to be expensive :( sad face. I'll just have to get a good job or something like that. Money's not too tight as of now, but we'll see.

I'm taking 21 units this quarter which sucks. I mean it's working, but I'm just not doing phenomenally in any of my classes. And I'm definitely doing a terrible job going into the lab regularly, though I have been going in on weekends which I rather enjoy. In fact, I could be in the lab right now...but am on Kerckhoff patio writing this instead. It's been a while I guess?

Physics 6B is not going well, its disgustingly hard and I'm not quite putting my whole mind into it. I don't really remember the last time I got more than a couple percent below the average on a midterm, but my first midterm I got 5% below average and that's including all the people who dropped immediately afterwards, which means that my 5% below just became even further below. I'm going to start going to the Covel open tutoring at night so I can at least figure out wtf is going on! The labs are pretty cool though. Yesterday we got to play with a Van der Graff machine which is the big ball you put your hands on and then your hair stands up. I did get shocked really badly though which was sad and kinda painful, but it was still pretty sweet. My lab partner is cool this quarter, she and I have the same attitude about physics labs: do as much as you have to to get close enough to the right answers and then call it quits. The lab doesn't teach you a whole lot but they're fun if you don't take them too seriously. Grading is an all or nothing thing so I should be okay there!!

Environment 10 is good, interesting some days and very elementary other days. This week we did a lab that was ridiculous, I felt like I was 10 again but everyone else seemed to be stunned that cold, salty water sinks in warm, fresh water. OMG so that's how the currents work! I don't mean to be offensive to anyone who didn't know that, I only mean to say that if you're an ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE MAJOR you should probably have that basic knowledge or instinct? And yet somehow, I'm not able to show that on my exams. Hopefully my project (40% of my grade...) will show it and I can pick it up with my exams. I do find it interesting and I like the professor a lot (I kind-of want to be her when I grow up...).

AOS 104 (FUNdamentals of Air and Water Pollution) is interesting but difficult. I have a lot of trouble with the hw and I'm hoping that I did well on the midterm, which I still haven't gotten back, but she assures us is coming. I'm in that class with Mike Branson and Jason Hyde which is definitely amazing, though it makes it difficult when none of us feel like paying attention...whoops. Its sometimes really thick and she moves very quickly, which makes learning it slowly from the notes and the book often times more effective.

Spanish 3...almost done with my language requirement. I really like it, I like my TA most days. She gets frustrated with us easily and then refuses to answer questions and gets bitchy but most days she's nice. Today she's letting us bring our laptops to class and write our essays in class which is pretty sweet. Then I don't have to do it this weekend, though I'm excited for a hw filled weekend.

My classes seem to be overlapping quite a bit this quarter, finally. Especially since 2 of them are talking about air and water pollution right now which is awesome, and physics sometimes overlaps but not really anymore. Stupid electric fields, that better come in handy some time soon.

I’m the library crew head for the fall which is awesome! Gabby is going to do it during the summer because I won’t be around, but as soon as fall comes I get to do it which I’m very excited about. I’m glad Gordon trusts me enough to let me, that makes me feel pretty good. It’s the same crew as last year just changing up the heads a teeny bit (not much though!). Jason Barbato, Manny, Gabby, and me! We work really well together, I think, and so that’ll be an awesome thing for all of us.

Alan McFarlan and Eric Mirowitz plus maybe one more are the trombone section leaders which also makes me really happy! I love Alan, he has an INCREDIBLE work ethic and will definitely help the section be incredible and down to earth. Eric is a great player and does care about making individuals better which is awesome, plus he has the playing and marching down. It’s going to be a good season.

Wow I’ve written almost too much but I hope it’s at least a little enjoyable? IDK fill in on the major stuff going on I suppose!

EDIT: We lost Spring Sing. It was a little BS. Idk. I’m bummed. That’s all I have to say on that right now.
