Everything is good here.
I started classes
Stats 12 (my TA is amazingly dorky, plus I'm taking it with Jason Barbato, Jenny Ward, and I met this girl randomly who's the older sister of a friend of mine from HS yay)
CHem 14BL with Mr. Thomas Long and Jenny Ward (haha yes again and we didn't even know it, Im excited, I really like her.) Boring class though, lots of work and copying, but Im excited for my first lab class!! :) yay and Im excited for my lab coat and goggles.
Music and Gender (my professor is really sweet and cute, she's new to UCLA so still is all enthusiastic but not a new professor so she knows what shes doing. downside? there are 64 of us in SMB 1420, as anyone in Psi especially knows, that many people in that room is RIDICULOUS. Its apparently a very reading/work intensive class, but so far I really like it. I started reading for next tuesday last night and its really interesting! The chapter Im reading is about how musicologists have always seen looking at the dirty underlying of music as a little faux-pau (sp??? no idea) and especially looking at how the constructions of gender influence classical music or the parts of music that aren't just lyrics, constructions and progressions. Its interesting. Plus, I write 2 papers that are both on AWESOME topics. the first one is: "select a feature film and explain how the music score deals with gender. How does the music delineate characters, stimulate desire or pleasure, and situate you with respect to the action?" I was thinking about memoirs of a geisha? that has serious gender issues and the score is AWESOME.
Im going to Astro today even though I think I'm going to drop it. I just applied for an internship and for sure if I get the internship I'll drop it. If I dont get it, I'm not sure yet, we'll see. I have an interview on either monday or tuesday by PHONE. eek. Its for the development department of Heal the Bay, a non profit that does a WHOLE LOT of beach/creek/water conservation in Los Angeles and has an awesome reputation. They also run the Santa Monica aquarium. They're cool basically is what I'm saying. So thats how it goes!
Im really happy. Band Camp went really well, I really like some of the new trombones, not saying some because I dont like some, but because I dont know some of them. Apart from a bunch of Psi stuff, everything is going better than I ever imagined. Kirsten is a wonderful roommate whom I adore and I feel like I have a group of friends that would be there for me whenever I need anything this year. I was afraid that wouldn't happen or I wouldn't feel that way. But I do. And more so, especially by the older trombones, I feel really accepted, not as the new freshman, but as a person, a "cool person" Id like to think.
Alex Bergman-since you're the just about the only one who reads this lol :-p I'm looking forward to PATing and I do want to talk about the dinner thing also, is it something we should do? want to do? I know that the officers talked about it, I'd like to know wha tyou talked about if possible. I miss hanging out with you, we should do that.
In conclusion: life is going pretty well, classes are not GREAT, but then again, how can stats and chem be great? yea answer me that! Im really happy with my major though, I must say. I hope I get this internship :) that would be cool.
Loveeee,
Sarah :)
