I think "Spring is for Lovers Malady" is stepping in earlier and louder than normal this year. Because as much as I would love to say that I'm happy for all of those adorable couples holding hands as they walk to class in the sunshiney warm spring weather, I'm really just pretty cynical. And as depressing as it tends to be- it leads me into a lot of thinking about what I expect from the opposite sex, and making sure that those expectations are reasonable and God-driven.
So here is my newest revised list of qualifications to the tune of my favorite song, "The Servant Song." (I realize some of them are a little far fetched, but work with me here! Some of them were so close I thought it'd be acceptable to squeeze the other ones in!)
- "Will you let me be your servant? Let me be as Christ to you. Pray that I may have the grace to let you be my servant too."
- Someone who is interested in growing in their faith, helping me to grow in mine, wishing to let me help him grow, and having an interest in growing alongside each other as well.
- "We are pilgrims on a journey. We are travelers on the road. We are here to help each other walk the mile and bear the load."
- Someone who seeks to spend time with my family and friends because he knows they're that important to me, and someone who wants me to spend time with his family and friends because I'm that important to him.
- "I will hold the Christ-light for you in the nighttime of your fear. I will hold my hand out to you, speak the peace you long to hear."
- Someone dominant who is willing to take the lead, take a stand, make decisions, be patient with me when I'm indecisive, and continue giving me the chance to be decisive though I seldom take advantage of it.
- "I will weep when you are weeping. When you laugh, I'll laugh with you. I will share your joy and sorrow till we've seen this journey through."
- Someone with such an investment in learning, that as soon as he learns something new that he's excited about, he wants to share it with me so that I can learn too, and someone who will challenge me to share what I have learned with others.
Ok. So perhaps a little cheesey. But seriously kids. Those were the top four things that I'm looking for right now. Sure it'd still be nice if he were to be taller than me, but... let's not be picky.
