so friday night, driving down to olympia, I'm in my car thinking "god, I hate Everett so much" when, suddenly, an eagle swoops down next to me and lands in the trees between the north and southbound side of I-5. washington is so awesome!!!!

I think the eagle was an omen of sorts because the rest of the weekend was really awesome too. Friday night I drove to Shelton to stay with Leah and was able to get through seattle and tacoma with no hassles and ended up headed west on a 2-lane highway through the peninsula just as the sun was setting, it was gorgeous. I got to Leah kinda late so we just watched the rest of the Mariners game and went to bed. Then saturday, her mom made us an awesome breakfast and then we went to hang out with Caleb at work and watch Indians play softball. (yes "indians", because thats what everybody kept referring to the Native Americans as, apparently you don't have to be p.c. out here...) After the Indian softball extravaganza, I got the grand tour of Shelton which was not too exciting in itself but I had a really good time talking to Leah and getting to know her better. It was the first time I've spent with her without Caleb and it turns out she is even more awesome than I thought. And her parents are hilarious too! Dinner with them and Caleb was a riot (and the food was good too!). Saturday night was pretty uneventful, we watched a movie at Calebs house, but he lives 2 blocks from the Capitol building and it was really impressive to see at night when it was all lit up.

Sunday I left Leah's around 2 and went to Tacoma to see Valerie! It was really exciting to see all of her pictures from her trip to China and hear all of the stories about drinking with communists and lecherous old guys from ethnic minorities. I also got to meet her best friend Tony from Colorado and he was a super nice guy (not to mention cute.) Then we went on a ridiculous trip to Ikea and ended up getting lost in kent/renton but it was a good adventure. Sadly, Winston and Alex were nowhere to be found when I stopped by so, sadly, I had to head back to Bellingham without seeing them. Soon enough though, since I'll be headed back down there in 2 weeks.

It was a great weekend indeed. And to top it off, I talked to Casey for a really long time on Sunday night and I'm starting to get excited for him to come back. It's been nice being single all summer but I think I'm ready to settle down a bit. Not just into a relationship, but into life in general. This summer has been such a whirlwind and the next few weeks will only get busier with school, work, moving and going out of town. I'm really looking forward to the start of September when I'll be settled into my house, finally get to see adrianne again and get to go home and see my family in albuquerque.
