It's been ages since it passed, but I'm just now getting around to bitching about Prop 8 on here. It took me this long to collect my thoughts on the matter past the stage of 'OMG I HATE THE WORLD'. I still hold that thought. I hate this. I hate that this could happen. I hate that we elected our first black president and then turned around and took away the rights of a minority. I hate that anyone thinks they have the RIGHT to tell anyone they can't have something so simple and petty as a legal marriage, it's like schoolyard bullying.
It doesn't effect you. No one's forcing you into a same sex marriage. They aren't even asking to get married in your damn churches. They're just asking to be treated with the basic rights everyone else gets.
It isn't about you or your churches at all. Marriage isn't a religious matter, it's just fucking not, and telling someone they can't have it because they're different is taking away their basic goddamn rights and that's a fucking slippery slope all justified on the opinions of the majority, taking away the rights of a minority. Haven't we already done this? Haven't we already determined that we shouldn't discriminate against minorities, and that everyone should have the same rights?
But they'd claim it's different I'm sure. Lots of people would claim that it's a choice. Get your heads out of your asses, people.
Now I'm pissed off and back to the omg I hate the world stage.
