Funny Work Phone Call
First of all, I am joining shelly in being sick. I hate being sick. I'm sick enough that I plan to take a day off, and i'm not one to take a day off, though my limits have definitely changed since becoming a mom. I realize that i can't just bust through the sickness all day and then come home and crash, b/c motherhood is the job from which you can't take a day off! So, i'm choosing my babies instead of my students and i'm going to try to spend the day getting better. *sigh*.
but on to the funny work phone call, since my throat hurts so bad that I can't sleep.
So, this mom calls me about her son's placement. He was placed into honors alg 2 as a freshmen which is quite unusual, since that is an honors tenth grade class. it means i really believed him to be a top notch math student. Anyhow, the placement just isn't working out, and the mother and I need to come up with an alternate plan for him.
Anyhow, she tells me that as of the last time she spoke with either me or his teacher, she has "learned some new information." Apparently her son has not been "doing his part" which to her, equates with doing his homework properly, reading the sections ahead of time, asking questions during class, etc. Apparently, he had become "addicted to an online game" that i "might have heard of -- world of warcraft." She relayed to me that the game is "a lot like crack cocaine -- people who play just can't wait for their next hit, and it causes them to make all sorts of irrational decisions." "Clearly" she told me, her son just "hasn't been thinking straight." It was a little bit difficult to not both bust up laughing and start to scream.
This mom can take away computer privleges. Can i? =-) Sigh. Let's just say I'm glad katelyn and michaela came out girls. I'm hoping this trait is only carried on the Y chromosome. =-) Or even if it's carried on the X, it's probably recessive, and my X's will dominate.
