Summary : Having been through a very bad incident in her past turns her into a mentally shaken woman. No one knows how she ended up like that. No one can’t find out what has happened to her because she is unable to communicate. Her life is a dead-end without a way to turn back, she is stuck inside a ward. Until one day, a man named Akanishi Jin passed the ward she’s been living in. Keeping a questionable past as well, the man decides to help her. Will he be her way out from the dead-end?
a/n 1 : Hi! This chapter somehow turns out longer than previous chapters. I even had to split it into 2 parts. I think LJ hates me or something because I had a hard time posting this chapter -___- anyway, thank you again for those who added this journal and keep following this fiction. Thank you very much! Jin comes again the next day, he’s so tired because he also has a job and coming to hospital between his work is not an easy thing. However, he can't ignore the fact that the young lady has begun to realize his presence. If it isn’t because of what has happened between them when Jin woke up to her staring at him, he must have had given up on helping her.
“Good afternoon!” Jin greets cheerfully when he enters the room. This time the nurse is helping her to eat lunch. The nurse is trying to make her eat a spoonful of rice but failed because she turns her head to another direction, refusing the food.
“Come on miss, you have to eat,” the nurse persuades the young lady, yet she keep brushing her baby doll’s hair.
“What’s up?” Jin stands beside the nurse who looks a little bit annoyed but keep smiling in order not to make the young lady feel scared.
“She doesn’t want to eat,” says the nurse, “I still have to go to see other patients to make sure all of them finishing their food.” The nurse looks troubled, Jin understands her confusion, she’s torn between continuing her job and leave this young lady here without eating her food or helping this young lady to eat her food and neglecting her job.
“I think you should continue your job, I will help her to eat her food,” Jin says. The nurse looks relieved after she hears what Jin said. She then stand up and give the plate to him.
“But she is hard to handle when it comes to food,” says the nurse.
“Ah it’s alright, I will make sure she finish her food.” Jin looks determined to make the young lady finish her food. She looks so thin, her skin is so pale, it makes her looks so fragile and the only thing Jin wants to do is to make her eat. He doesn’t want to see her getting sick. She’s mentally sick and he doesn’t want her body to get sick too.
The nurse is still in the room when Jin begins to help the young lady eating her food, “Hey, I think you should eat this.” Jin taps her shoulder to gain her attention. She flinch but then turns her head to Jin’s direction, she only stares at him though. Jin and the nurse are surprised to see her reaction.
“Okay, I’ll leave her with you, I’ll be back in 30 minutes,” the nurse says before leaving the room.
The atmosphere in the room is kind of awkward. The young lady is still staring at Jin and it makes him confused. Why does the young lady keep staring at him like that. Suddenly he feels nervous. He doesn’t know why he feels like that though. “Uhm.. this food smells good,” Jin tries to ease his nervousness away, the young lady is still staring at him. It looks like she won’t eat the food by herself, so he decides to feed her.
“Okay open your mouth,” Jin says as he’s holding the spoon in front of her mouth. He opens his mouth slowly with hope that she would imitate him. When she opens her mouth, Jin can’t hide his bemusement. He feeds her. After she finish swallowing her food, she lowers her head, back to her favorite activity, brushing the hair of her baby doll. Jin feels happy because she eat the food he offered. It’s such a very good improvement from her. Jin continues to feed her. Sometimes she refuses and keeps brushing the hair of her baby doll. But when the nurse come back, she almost done with her food. Jin thinks maybe she has already full, so he gives the almost empty plate to the nurse.
“You did a great job, Akanishi-san,” the nurse smiles as she takes the plate from Jin. Jin just smiles awkwardly at the nurse praise. “Now miss, time to take your pills,” the nurse put a glass of water and several pills on the table beside her bed. Again she refuses to take her pills, when the nurse give her one pill, she doesn’t take it. Jin comes closer to her bed.
“Eat this pill, okay?” Jin takes the pill from the nurse then put it on the lady’s hand, he guides her hand to put the pill on her mouth. Bemused by what just happens, the nurse only stares at Jin who is helping the lady to take her pills one by one. When Jin finished, the nurse still looks very surprised.
“I really don’t understand how do you easily do that.” The nurse stares at Jin in an awe. “Usually I need more than 30 minutes to make her to take her pills. You only need 10 or 15 minutes. Moreover, you’re a stranger and a guy. Every time a male nurse touches her, she will freak out and start crying.”
Jin eyes widened when he hear that. He’s also a guy but she never freaked out or start crying when he touches her or their skin accidentally brushed. She often flinched but her reaction is never more than that. “Perhaps you’re different for her. A special person?” The nurse smiles.
He looks at the young lady who is back to brushing her doll’s hair. Is he really different in her eyes? A special person? that thought somehow makes him smile. Wait! Did he just smile? Why? He’s surprised by his own thought. Deep in thought, he doesn’t realize that the young lady has been staring at him again. It’s the nurse who’s telling him that someone has been staring at him.
“Look who’s staring at you right now, Akanishi-san," the nurse teases him.
“Huh?” is his response.
“Look at the bed.”
When he looks at the bed, he catches her staring straight at him like what happened the other day. Jin stares at her too which makes her quickly lowered his gaze then turns her head away. “Awww.. she’s shy," the nurse still teasing Jin with that.
“I don’t think she is shy, maybe she is still scared.” Jin tries to hide his blush. He doesn’t even know why he blushed because of the nurse teasing.
“Who knows?” The nurse smiles at him. He realizes that the nurse would be still teasing him if he didn’t do something to stop her from thinking that way.
The nurse’s ready to go out when he suddenly asks her something he doesn’t know he would ever asked. “Is it okay if I want to take her for a walk?” He asks the nurse doubtfully. He expects the nurse to forbid him from taking her to go out from this room.
“I don’t think you can. She can get easily freak out you know.” As he has expected, the nurse won’t allow him to take her for a walk. But he still wants to take her for a walk, even if he has to beg to get permission. Most of the times, he doesn’t understand himself, so he asks again without thinking any further.
“Please? The weather is very nice today. It can refresh her mind.” Jin got a good point there, lovely weather is never a bad thing for sick person.
“See? It could be her first time, who knows it might be good for her?” Jin‘s so persistent to take the lady for a walk.
Defeated by Jin’s good intention and plea, the nurse finally gives her permission to him. “Okay okay, I will let you to take her for a walk. But don’t walk too far from this hospital because I will accompany both of you and I can’t go too far. I need to be here again if someone needs me.” She says that then prepares the young lady to go out.
Jin takes her hand and keeps holding it as they’re waliking together to the hospital park. The nurse only smiles thinking that the lady might have grown accustomed to her visitor. She doesn’t flinch anymore when Jin takes her hand. She still looks confused when Jin and the nurse brings her outside the hospital. But she obliged. The nurse sees an unoccupied bench at that park, she tells Jin to let the lady sit on that bench. It’s been months since the last time she walked, the nurse says, so she might be tired.
After Jin helps the lady to sit on the bench, he stretches his body, inhaling a fresh air that he hardly find inside the hospital. The lady just sit quietly on the bench with her baby doll, safe in her embrace. The nurse’s sitting beside her, clearly enjoying the nice weather too.
The nurse begins to break the silence between them. “This hospital doesn’t have too many workers. It’s a small hospital as you see. So there’s no nurse that can attend patients if they want to go out. You see every patient in this park is accompanied by their family, friends, or relatives. She doesn’t even have visitors so she can’t go out. She might getting lost if we let her out from her room.”
Jin only nods. He feels bad for the young lady, no wonder there’s no improvement with her condition. Staying at that room all day won’t do her any good. “I’m glad you’re here, Akanishi-san. I don’t understand why you are so eager to help her,” the nurse wonders.
To be honest, Jin also doesn’t understand why. He’s about to tell her that he also doesn’t know the reason when he hears a call for the nurse. “Akanishi-san, I think I have to leave her with you. There’s an emergency patient and they need me, seems like other nurses are busy with their patient. Please take care of her properly. Don’t walk too far from hospital,” the nurse tells Jin. She bows to him then Jin can see her running inside the building.
After the nurse leaves, Jin turns his attention to the lady who’s staring at the other side of the park. If what the nurse said is right, it means that the lady has never out of that room, she must be feeling so bored and lonely all of those times. Jin’s got an idea, he will be her friend and took her for a walk, he sees that there’s a nice beach, it isn’t that far, he can see the hospital from the beach, he will take her there. He takes the lady’s hand and drags her to the beach. The lady doesn’t fight back when Jin does that. She follows Jin’s lead without freaking out or crying.
