The other night we went to see
PLAY! A Video Game Symphony at the Orpheum.
I have to say, once the initial novelty and nostalgia mix of having a full orchestra play our favourite Mario themes wore off, I was left wanting something of a little more substance, and was frankly feeling slightly embarrassed for the VSO. Looking at the faces of the mostly middle-aged performers as they played the theme to Halo and as the mostly twenty-something audience hollered and cheered, they just looked uninspired.
However! It was still kind of a cool experience I think it's smart of them (and probably necessary) to pull in a more diverse audience. Why not something that seems a little less like pandering?
It's after 1 am on a school night but here I am with my fantasy picks for the
Opening - 2001: A Space Odyssey (obviously) Man With A Harmonica - Once Upon A Time In The West Ending/Love Theme - Mulholland Drive Yumeji's Theme - In the Mood for Love Still Dead - American Beauty Theme - Vertigo
Future Markets - There Will Be Blood
La Noyee - Amelie 8½ Theme - Requiem For a Dream
