Happy New Year!
Y'all, please stay safe on the roads today! Story time--It's not yet seven in the morning, and my uncle & I are returning from dropping my sister off at the airport. It is ridiculously foggy--you can barely see in front of you. Some jackass decides he's going to go at least 80 miles an hour when the speed limit is 60. This is notable because I'd been dozing, almost settled into bona fide sleep, when I felt the car rock. Rock, y'all, woke me up. And not thirty seconds later, we saw this same Honda CRV's headlights facing us.
I need to tell y'all we're on a six-lane freeway, and the headlights were on the right, not the left. In the States, headlights should only ever be seen on the left. This idiot then proceeds to continue driving the wrong direction in the fog and speeding.
At least he had the foresight to hit a man, making him spin into the median--a man who didn't have his legal papers and who barely spoke Spanish, which, thankfully, my high school Spanish was enough for me to get that out. The guy who'd been hit really should have stayed, but luckily the Honda CRV only jacked up his taillight and the driver's side so that it made opening and closing the doors difficult. The man walked away--God was there this morning. But, Jesus, it would surprise me none if I see later on this morning there was a horrendous accident on the freeway.
I couldn't get back to sleep after that, but wow. WOW, are we serious? Clearly, dude was drunk. It was so bad another unrelated driver stopped because he saw the dude tearing down the highway the wrong way! *smh* iCan't.
