Good Things

• FAMILY.  Man...for all my struggles and my issues, I truly, truly love my family.  One of my "baby" cousins came down last weekend, except this "baby" is 6'4", 18 years old, and going to be a freshman in college at the end of the month.  LAWD!  Where was I when he decided to grow up?  He should've consulted me on that...but, he's very smart and I'm proud of him and I hope he does well and STAY AWAY FROM THEM HEFFAS!  *ahem*  But not only that, my cousins from ATL came over as well, so it was a weekend of extended family and it was GREAT.  It definitely lifted my spirits, esp as I'd been under the weather all week.
• Went to the Harvard Alumni reception for SC for incoming students, current students, and alumni and there were TWO BLACK MEN there.  Um, this is huge and wonderful.  Not only that, one is from my hometown and we spent the majority of the time chatting.  I hope they listened to me as I dispensed my pearls of wisdom, because I want them to have a better experience than I did.
• A woman who hosted my sister last year while she was doing thesis research in Charleston is trying to get me involved in the Moja Festival to do a reading and book signing.  My shyness aside, I really hope we can work things out because that would be an awesome opportunity.  ETA:  I just spoke with the coordinator and...it sounds like it's a go!  Yo, at least two different people told this woman about me.  Kinda humble by that!
• My friend is going to visit me either this weekend or next weekend.  Yay!
• My other friends, my big sis from Kuumba, had a baby girl last weekend and she's GORGEOUS.  This, of course, prompted me to break out old Kuumba CDs. Dang, I miss that choir.
• Finished the first-round edits on all the projects I had due for the 20th (except for a personal one for me, but I'm relaxing my self-imposed deadline because it's not as critical, which is also good news).  Also talked to a prospective client, and while the project she queried me about couldn't pan out, she's keeping me on standby--which is WONDERFUL.
• Applied for a job at the Avery Research Center.  Y'all wish me luck!
• To piggyback on point one, had my first rehearsal for CSO and my cousin (yes, I have a pretty large family!) is a member of it.  Had NO idea until I ran into him in the hall.  We also sang some songs that Kuumba sang, except they didn't sing them the same way, but at least I wasn't completely lost.  I wish I weren't coughing so much but hopefully by next week I'll be set.
• Last night I dreamed I won an Oscar.  Don't know what for, but it was awesome and I was crying, especially since I sat in the audience like an idiot because I knew my name hadn't been called!  I think my sis was my date. :)
• I'm finally writing more Star Trek fic.  I hope it doesn't suck.

Oooh, that's a LOT of good things!  This pleases me greatly. :)
