Dr. Fisher,
My name is Katie Moore, I am a junior, a music business major, and I am disappointed. Our school has always met and exceeded expectations that I have had, but lately things have gone downhill. I live in the Belmont Commons; I pay quite a bit to live in the Belmont Commons. My apartment is full of water, which is leaking from the air conditioner which has yet to be fixed by maintenance. I am the proud owner of an oven which has never worked, and has never been fixed, although it has been reported. My apartment is full of mice & bugs, which have also been reported, but still share my apartment with me. So apparently I live in an infested, broken down, flooded apartment; I pay quite a bit to live in this infested flooded apartment.
On Friday I got a parking ticket for parking in the parking garage. My car was there for, at the most, twenty minutes. I’m sorry, I realize that there are reasons for the rules and regulations that have been laid out for parking, but I think they are ridiculous. I paid a student fee for a parking pass which should allow me to park in the parking garage which my tuition helped to pay for. I was fined fifty dollars. Fifty Dollars. I do not have fifty dollars. If I did, it seems that I would need to spend my fifty dollars on mouse traps, Raid, towels, or possibly some sort of screw to fix my oven.
This ticket was the second that I have gotten this year. The first was issued the first week of school for not having the proper parking decal. Yet again, I am confused. Belmont has been plagued with robberies at knife point, stolen cars, and most recently a stolen trailer from the Commons parking lot. It seems that our safety should be far more important to campus SECURITY than whether our parking decal is red or blue, which to me, seems like it would not be a threat to SECURITY at all. I realize that our officers are just making a living, but could they not make it protecting me, and not sucking me dry?
The students pay a lot to go to Belmont. We pay a whole lot. We pay for a secure campus, a place to park, and a nice place to live. As of now I feel that I have none of those things. I don’t pay for a river running through my infested apartment; I don’t pay for pointless fifty dollar tickets, and I don’t pay for frustration.
I apologize if this letter is offensive. I apologize if it is rude. But I do not apologize for feeling this way, and feeling that you should know.
Thank you,
Katie Moore
