Alaric Saltzman knew he would never be a father once he finally found out that Isobel was a vampire. He would not have a little girl who looked like Is and had his brains. His whole world was gone in a blink of an eye.
Fuck his life.
His life got somewhat better because of Jenna then she gets turned into a damn vampire and dies.
Ric can’t bear to tell Elena and Jeremy his deep dark secret. So he sleeps on the couch and drinks all the alcohol up within days after buying it. He can’t be in the same bed that made their child.
Yes Jenna was pregnant.
Little did the kids know the one main reason Jenna came back after finding out about Isobel and vampires and whatnot was that she was pregnant. Two months to be exact.
He likes to think that their baby was a boy and that Jenna would have let him name him Nick. But then he sees Elena, hair messed up and all, coming downstairs for more cookie dough.
Elena and Jeremy have lost everyone, parents, aunt, boyfriend and their lives. He has no way of helping them with all that deep shit. He can barely handle a grade crisis one of his students tells him about.
But he figures that’s why he stays. Even if he doesn’t give a crap like a dad would he’s hurting too and can’t seem to leave them. They are all he has now. He could leave and go home but he just has a feeling that he is suppose to be here.
He’s not really sure why Jeremy gets a job. The house is paid for and the bills Ric can handle for now but they don’t ask him. He just leaves the money out hoping one of them pays the cable bill so he can watch the season premieres of shitty summer shows.
There is something wrong with him. He knows that a parent would wake up their son so he’s not late for work but he doesn’t. Jeremy isn’t his.
He can’t be the one to hold Elena’s hand telling her that Stefan will come back and be fine. Because he knows damn well what Klaus does to the people you love.
One day Caroline calls him, he shouldn’t have her under her real name god knows what people would think, about having a birthday party for Elena. He didn’t even know when her birthday was but he tells Caroline he will give her a hundred bucks to throw whatever kind of party teenagers have for birthdays.
But he doesn’t expect to be invited.
If this town wasn’t as weird or strange there would be no way a history teacher would be invited to a students party. But he goes, Damon and Andie will be there, just for the drinks since he did buy a fair share of them.
That night he tells Elena he is leaving that he isn’t cut out to be a role model. He gives her some crap excuse that just because her birthday made her legal means that its time for him to go.
He knows he should stay. Elena’s hurting and has no idea how to handle the adult world. Jeremy has been acting strange ever since he came back to life. Ric knows what the right thing is but he can’t do it.
He walks by Jenna’s room everyday seeing her things just sitting there keeping dust. It takes more then a bottle to make him stop crying.
So he leaves.
Goes back to his apartment that has its share of memories and lies on the bed. That night he dreams of Jenna with their baby sitting in the Gilbert’s kitchen yelling at Jeremy to get his ass to work and at Elena who left the fridge open. Then she looks at him saying that he better control the kids.
He wakes up sweating.
No Alaric Saltzman wasn’t cut out to be a father but that morning he calls Jeremy to wake him up so he wont be late then calls Elena making sure she is okay. He’ll head to the grill to get a drink or two in before he can even think about what he is going to do. He should be there for them because it would be what Jenna would have wanted. But what about what he wanted?

Title: All I Have
Author: BambiScott
Team: Vampires/Witches
Rating: PG
Pairing: Elena, Ric, & Jeremy
Word Count: 615
Summary: She has lost everyone.
(spoilers up till 3.03) Companion piece to Not A Dad
Elena can count on one hand how many parents she has lost, adding one more would make her use the other. She can deal with loss. But every time someone dies and a new person steps in to take care of her they end up dying as well.
Two days after her parents died she was doped up on pain meds and called her father’s cell. After she left the voicemail she realized that he was gone. She slept in their bed for a week forcing Jeremy to stay in their room as well.
Her parents were gone so they got Jenna.
Elena loved Jenna but she wasn’t sure if her young aunt, who didn’t really have her crap together, could become an adult for them. But she did and it was all her fault that Jenna was dead.
It was her fault John died to save her. That Isobel did what she did so she could have a normal life.
All the people Elena loved died because of her.
She doesn’t count Jeremy’s death because her little brother is downstairs in the kitchen pouring a bowl of cereal before work. If Jeremy was still dead then she would have no idea what to do with herself. She still doesn’t because Stefan is gone but its different.
If all of her family was gone she’d be alone, she’ll never count Katherine as kin. But she walks downstairs and sees Ric still sleeping on the couch. Elena forgot, kind of with the problems she’s been having, that Ric lost Jenna too.
So when he states he is leaving her to do everything alone. She’s pissed maybe even a bit of Katherine came out as she yelled.
So when she tells him that she is going to track down Stefan, whose in werewolf forest, she kind of wants Ric to get as angry as she did. It doesn’t take long before they are on the road and she drifts off to thinking about Stefan.
Or so she tells herself. Since Damon’s in her mind as well.
The ring she is clutching is what will make this work. She gives Ric some excuse that he needs it to survive this mess they are about to get into. All she wants to say is that her birth mother loved him and so did Jenna. Both women somehow without even trying trusted him with their children.
Elena doesn’t want the ring back, unless she has kids but she doesn’t want any because of what she is, so giving it to Ric is wise. If Klaus finds out she is alive and kills her then she knows there is someone to look after Jeremy. Plus there is someone to look after Ric cause he clearly needs looking after these days.
She needs to tell him in some twisted way and not disrespecting her parents that Alaric Saltzman is now her father. That he needs to be there when she needs a shoulder to cry on after thinking about Stefan for too long. He needs to be the one to get through to Jeremy because he wont talk to her. He needs to be there because he’s all they have.
A day later she clears out Jenna’s clothes from the drawers hoping Ric can take the hint. He does. That night he comes over for dinner with his bags. He heads up to his room when he goes to bed.
Elena doesn’t want to count anymore dead parents on her hands. She doesn’t want to feel like everything is all her fault even if it is. She just wants to be protected. All she wants is all she has at the moment.

Title: Until The Day We Die
Author: BambiScott
Team: Vampires/Witches
Rating: PG
Pairing: Lucy, Bonnie, Gloria
Word Count: 383
Summary: She didn’t expect to see Bonnie at her door. (spoilers up till 3.03)
Lucy doesn’t expect to see Bonnie at her mother’s door. Her mother, Joanna, is Bonnie’s dad’s second cousin. Lyle Bennett says they are here for the family reunion that isn’t really a reunion because most of the Bennett’s are dead now.
But Lucy can tell that’s a lie.
She lets them unpack before she sneaks into the hallway by the kitchen to overhear her mother and Lyle.
“Bonnie’s into deep magic. I swear my mother shouldn’t have told her a thing.”
“Now Lyle she’s a Bennett. If I heard correctly she found Emily’s necklace last year.”
“The necklace that got my mother killed than yes. My powers are weak. I haven’t practiced in years. Jo there’s vampires in Mystic Falls how can I let her stay there?”
“Lyle she’s there for a reason. Taking her on some family trip isn’t going to change what Bonnie is. Its her birthright.”
Lucy can hear the sincere words her mother speaks. She’s known she’s been a disappointment ever since she chose the wrong side.
She finds Bonnie on the porch swing looking at a picture of the boy she saw her with the first time they met.
“He’s a cutie.”
Bonnie blushes and puts her cell phone away.
“Now cuz tell me what you have gotten yourself into.”
After Bonnie tells her about all the power she took in, how she faked being dead and Lyle didn’t notice, how she almost killed an original, and yes how she brought Jeremy back to life Lucy isn’t sure she should be the one to tell her this.
But she’s the only one with real power left besides Bonnie.
“They will come for you.” Bonnie gives her a look. “Any vampire that can make out you are a witch will come. You have chosen the right side Bonnie. Unlike me. I still have so many debts to pay that’s why you need to know.”
She’s not sure how to say the part about unending doom.
“Bennett’s who practice witchcraft never make it out alive. Expect for Great Aunt Gloria.”
She knows its not what her younger cousin expected to hear. Lucy had no way of protecting herself let alone Bonnie. Magic in the Bennett clan never surpasses the next generation.
Every Bennett is doomed until the day they die.
