Title: Man's Best Friend
Rating: PG
Pairing: none, just Ryo & Jin, mentions of Yamapi
Word Count: 511
Summary: Ryo doesn't know what to make of this; just him and Jin and no Pi to fill in the blanks and cushion the falls.

Yamapi is always busy now.

Maybe 'busy' is not even the right word. Ryo and Jin are busy. Yamapi is crazily overworked, forever absent.

They're still doing Friday night, though, just Ryo and Jin with brief but painfully apologetic text messages on their phones urging them on. 'Have fun!' Right.

It feels weird; just him and Jin. Jin in his apartment playing video games and making the incredulous noises he always makes feels surreal now, because there is no follow-up, no amused-exasperated 'Bakanishi'. There's just silence filling the empty space where Yamapi would usually sit.

It feels weird. Stupid. Wrong.

Ryo doesn't know what to make of this; just him and Jin and no Pi to fill in the blanks and cushion the falls.

"This is boring," Jin mutters after a while, mournful. "You are boring, Ryo-chan."

"Fuck you," Ryo retorts absently and pokes Jin with his foot from where he's sitting on the couch, staring at the tiny pixel-people frozen on the television screen.

Jin makes an affronted noise, pouts, rests a hand on the small of his back where Ryo's foot barely touched him. "Hey!"

That's just the thing with Jin. He's bouncy and melodramatic and radiant and in your face all the fucking time, and Ryo, he doesn't have the energy for this, not when there are no cameras around to dork it up for, not when he's been going on catnaps and sheer determination the whole week. If Ryo wanted this, needed this; the constant yapping and bouncing and play-fights, he would have bought a dog a long time ago.

"Okay, okay," Jin says suddenly and puts his controller to the side. When Ryo glances at him, Jin has this look on his face -- brows drawn in a frown and pouting lips, tongue in the cheek -- a look of intense concentration. "Let's just talk, then."

Ryo snorts. "Talk?" he repeats, rising an eyebrow. "Of what?"

Jin shrugs, crosses his legs. Uncrosses them. "I don't know. Whatever. What we usually talk about."

"Okay," Ryo says, and resists the urge to laugh. "And what do we usually talk about?"

"Um." Now Jin just looks confused.

"Right."

"Fuck. This is sad," Jin concludes when he finally comes to the same realization as Ryo. "We really don't talk, the two of us, do we?" Jin asks. He looks a bit surprised, a bit sad.

Ryo sighs. "Just shut up and come here."

Jin looks at him suspiciously. "Why?"

"What do you think?" Ryo retorts, rolling his eyes. "We'll text that idiot in case he thinks we're at your place."

"Can we ask him to bring take-out?" Jin asks hopefully, leaning his head on Ryo's thigh to blink up at him.

If Ryo needed this, he would have bought a dog a long time ago.

Then again.

"We just ate, you freak," he replies, Jin's indignant shrieks like pleasant background music to his ears.

Jin is definitely much more fun.
