It's soapbox time..

I decided that I wanted to write a response to Adam's last journal post (before the one talking about Andrea and his job) where he said "i'm sick of seeing people that are trying to become activists and "fight for what they believe in" when they have not experienced life and things that should make them want to fight ( Read more... )

I know Will foy. I just gotta say, the whole school getting shot up/gun control deal is a load of rubbish. How far you think those kids would have got had teachers been armed? or they have security guards? if you get gun control, you get facism. plain and simple

gun control = the devil

Firearms were one of the things Hitler took away from the Jewish people before the entire Holocaust occurred, leaving them defenseless in a number of ways. Had they been able to keep their belongings, including weapons, perhaps things would have been different. Perhaps 6 million innocent people would not have been murdered.
It could happen again.

I think that these 2 quotes are more powerful an argument than any statistic or any anecdote could possibly ever be.

"The most foolish mistake we could possibly make would be to allow the subjected people to carry arms. History shows that all conquerors who have allowed their subjected peoples to carry arms have prepared their own downfall by so doing. Indeed, I would go so far as to say that the underdog is a sine qua non for the overthrow of any sovereignty. So let's not have any native militia or police." -- Adolph Hitler, Edict of March 18, 1938

"Germans who wish to use firearms should join the SS or the SA. Ordinary citizens don't need guns, as their having guns doesn't serve the State"
-- Heinrich Himmler

Two crazy guys say one quote and it's an argument against gun control? I don't think so.

To extrapolate on what Cole said, why should a school shooting change someone's opinion on gun control? Aren't there already laws against murder ( ... )

A school shooting could inspire a survivor to rally for better gun control laws so that it would be harder for younger kids to get a hold of guns with which to perform a school shooting with. Or the complete opposite, it could inspire a survivor to rally against gun control in favor of armed security and faculty. The examples I gave in my journal could really go either way...I was merely stating that going through these experiences gives you a more insightful opinion, and the fact that young people can have life experience before they are adults ( ... )

Perhaps the school shooting wouldn't have occured if there had been stricter gun control laws to prevent the children from getting the guns.
By the way, "gun control=the devil" is not a vaild point by any means. If you can't think of an argument more intelligent than that, then please don't bother commenting because it just makes me laugh at you.

Oh, you DID NOT just open this can of worms!

Please, concede defeat now before I have to type a 10-page essay to crush you. I can do it, too.

Oh dear me. I'm shaking in my Old Navy flip flops.

I have no doubt of your ability to argue your way out of a paper bag. And I know you'll do it in a manner that I will probaly love because William dear, you are smart as all get out and are able to get your points across without insulting anyone.

Go ahead if you must/

Oh, it's on like Donkey Kong.

I'm going to do this in a simple Myth/Rebuttal style, where I state a common myth about gun control, and then a series of facts and statements as to why it is wrong

Part 1Myth: Stricter gun laws would have prevented the Columbine massacre, and could prevent further school shootings ( ... )

Part 2

Myth: Gun registration will help solve crimes.

Fact: There is mandatory registration of firearms in Hawaii, Chicago, and Washington DC, yet there has not been a single case to date in which the registry has been used to identify a suspect.

Myth: Registration does not lead to confiscation.

Fact: In Canada, Germany, Australia, California, New York City, Bermuda, Cuba, Greece, Ireland, and Jamaica, guns that were once perfectly legal and registered by law-abiding citizens were later confiscated because of newer laws. (Ex Post Facto what?)

All right, I'm getting kind of tired of hunting down statistics and typing here. If anyone else has any preconceptions about gun control, please post your myth and I will disprove it.
