Just catching up on the hullabaloo over the CPSIA law.  What the heck were these people thinking???  This is one of the most ridiculously unrealistic pieces of legislation ever.  Why do they think putting small businesses out of commission at a time like this is going to work for anyone?  Not to mention that most of the small businesses (mainly ( Read more... )

These people are thinking they're getting big bucks from the big corporations who can afford the testing with no problem & see it as an easy way to eliminate the little people/competition, oh & all the yardsales (though I highly doubt anyone will bother to police that, the man-power to check up on all yardsales, or even spot-check enough to be at all effective would be insane) and thrift stores & ebay and such, think how many more NEW toys Fisher Price can sell if nobody can re-sell last year's version!!!

Last info I've seen they've attempted to appease the used market by saying anything manufactured prior to 11/08 is exempt (which only helps the used market for maybe 6 mo!!!!) and there is at least talk of exempting handmade items made from material highly unlikely to contain lead (ie. cotton, wood . . . though I haven't heard if that would include painted wood items?) and then some double talk that I didn't bother to follow real closely about items expected to contain lead, but the lead isn't accessible to the child (ie. electronics). . .

But yeah, in a nutshell, they're doing their best to kill off the WAHMs and at the same time, as they talk about the horrible economy AND the need for less stuff in landfills, they're passing legislation to effectively eliminate the used kids toys/clothes market which is a HUGE financial savings to many people as well as, think about how much more junk will go into landfills if all those toys that kids only use for about 6 mo before outgrowing or getting bored have to go in the landfills instead of onto ebay or to goodwill or Once Upon a Child.
