i finished watching The Gangs of New York. i liked it alot. i didnt particularly like how the director did it, but it had neat pieces, for example there was very subtle fast motion in just a few places and umm thats it?. the flashbacks were done strangly in the fact that there wasnt a big flash of white light, and it flashed back longer than it needed to in some parts. it pretty much told the audience that "this is this character, he used to be good, now hes bad". it shouldve been like one or two seconds. enough to show his old face, and where you saw it, then switch back to his current face and not take you so much out of the story. anyway. the movie it self was very good in my opinion. it has a big twist in the middle. then it completely changes 'gear' and on the story and goes the opposite way that it was heading before. (the twist is rather expected, but it was done nicely where as it gives a suprise on what happends. i may have missed it, but, there was little foreshadowing about the outcome of the twist, while the major change itself is very expected, how it is executed and what happends in it, although, is not.(i think ive made that clear enough now)) the movie is also, pretty long. (2hours 40 min ish). long movies are good, cause they take up alot of time, at the same time, letting you get really into it, along with having alot of character development and plot thingies. (oh yeah, i thought the overall story was good, but was a just a tad bit shallow. i say that about alot of movies, maybe thats just how movies are. i expect too much of them. on second thought, books are alot more 'deep'. maybe i should read more. perhaps if i wasent lazy)
