The initial euphoria of Eurasianists caused by
mr. Putin article on Izvestia was followed by a growing hysteria against a
commentary appeared on the Financial Times and authored by Charles Clover .
Being a great admirer of Clover, I myself was a bit disappointed but for different reasons .
His article was not punctilious as usual, rather presented a rough picture of Eurasianism as revival of the Soviet Union and predicted the come back of a Putin within old schemes, something outlined by mostly all media in the West .
In reality the writing, is the further expression of a message that the prime minister, since long time is delivering to the West :
If you don’t stop interfering in our business, we go East .
It was no more no less than the usual song .
The idea to re-assemble the Soviet Union, does not come to his mind either, because he knows what huge amount of problems that would represent .
All he is concerned about, is strengthening Russia economy and position within that group of countries in order to exercise what Medvedev calls their sphere of influence, and consequently being a stronger interlocutor for the West .
I wouldn’t call this cold war atmosphere either .
It is Putin old game, keeping everybody from balls everybody, without letting them realize .
And from this we can understand that the Putin we’ll see during next presidency, will be a mix of everything, depending on the situation .
I wouldn’t force things though, by sending raids in Gazprom offices to stop Southstream .
The big cat can turn himself into a tiger in the twinkling of an eye .
It will be a Putin trying trying to please everybody, from writers to bloggers, ready to confess his amphora tricks .
The Putin of the front will be like tradition wants us to be dressed on new year’s eve, with something new and something old .
