Assuming that Medvedev was only a fallback candidate, he chose the right strategy - one that never envisioned an independent run but pursued a distant hope that Putin, closer to 2012, would for some reason change his mind about running himself. If Putin does run for president in 2012, he should keep Medvedev as a partner in the tandemocracy and retain him as a reformist prime minister.
V. Frolov Some Italian chap opened a group on Facebook , which translated goes more or less like this : " Vladimir poison Medvedev on our behalf " .
Other than the hilarious reference to the Western media claim about the prime minister tendency to get rid of his adversaries through unorthodox practices, it pretty much sums up the feelings of those who support Russia and Putin around the world .
The idea of the tandem, which I agree with Frolov, must have been conceived based on the scheme of a fallback candidate, failed exactly because Medvedev chose the wrong strategy .
We grant him the chance of the benefit of the doubt , when we put into account that he is the victim of his own team . And if true that the one who has full control of Russian politics is Vladislav Surkov, then we must call him to responsibility for the disasters that the tandem idea generated .
Probably lost between saints and messengers, he lost also his architectural touch .
Because if we consider it carefully, the reformist and liberal Medvedev, proposed a series of laws, from chemical castration to drugs check on students, that not even the best Putin of our times, could come up with .
About foreign politics, the plan, if there ever was a plan, to show the pointlessness of NATO and UN functions, fell as soon as started .
The idea of a European security pact was valid, but matched with the uncertainty of the position at the UN on votes on Libia , it just proved to be foolish .
In other words, at least on international level, Medvedev and his buddies destroyed all that had been built by Putin . Russia has less credibility than before .
Even now that the doors for a multipolar world are widely open, Russia is the less likely candidate .
And in all this, mr. Putin has his own share of responsibility .
His choice of a pillow partner, miserably failed .
What happened in my humble opinion, is that at some point mr . Medvedev realised to appear as a fool in the eyes of the world, and started to counteract with a series of panic measures .
Putin should have chosen a candidate weak enough not to challenge him, but strong in the right measure to bring on those series of acts, necessary to strengthen the govern and United Russia .
The popular front was an emergency move .
So today we have a group of semi naked girls who wash cars, a billionaire who lectures here and there about measures to take to restore the Russian system and a bunch of prominent politicians on blacklist in America .
I am still wondering why el Kirurg and his night wolves have not yet been presented as candidates .
This is Russia politics at its lowest point . And Surkov and Putin are to blame for it .
If Putin runs as president with Medvedev prime minister, that means they have no intention to change this miserable situation .
If a person doesn't have courage, he cannot give to himself .
