Just was reading up on the current avian flu outbreaks. The WHO's and CDC's takes on it are not good.
We have a virus:
* Foreign to humans
* Essentially uncontrollable in the wild and domestic bird populations.
* With a small, but existent ability to be transmitted from bird to person and person to person.
* Largely fatal in humans
* Known to mutate
and a limited supply of effective anti-flu drugs, an insufficient vaccine production capacity, and no way to create an effective vaccine until a new strain arises.
This does not paint a rosy picture. Not that I'm going to worry -- No point fretting about what you can't change.
