Maybe it's just me, but it seems like the popular conception of a second is basically "an instant" or a point in time that doesn't really last or take up space at all, almost like the way a mathematical point or line doesn't actually take up space. But that's not what it is. It's a unit of measurement, and it can be divided into smaller units. Hmm.
I guess there are really two slightly different definitions or usages.
