This is Michalina Manios from the 2nd edition of Poland's Next Top Model. Her name was 'Michał' until she was 18, a boy's name-- she is intersex. Isn't she lovely? She reminds me a bit of Andrej Pejić, facial features-wise. She is such a cool mature woman-- one of my favorites in the show. I think that her taking a part in the show really helps

Hermaphrodite isn't a good word to use in English. If she was born with ambiguous genitals, she's intersex. I assume she's also transgender since how she was raised doesn't match how she identifies now.

Thanks for letting me know. The Polish version of the word, 'hermafrodyta', keeps getting used with her, even on the Polish homopedia (she doesn't have a profile on the wikipedia yet, I guess), so I thought it's okay to use it in English too.

You're welcome. In English it doesn't have very good connotations when it refers to people since people can't have both sets of genitals. Some animals can, so that's when it's okay to use.

Out of curiosity, I just googled 'hermaphrodite intersex' to read about the differences, and yeah, I noticed that the word isn't liked when used with people. Maybe we use it wrong in Polish (I don't think the word has different meanings in our languages?) and "obojniak" could be more accurate, but it sounds negative in Poliah, almost like names calling. I remember that when I was little, kids used it as that kind of a funny name they call those they don't like. 'Hermafrodyta' sounds very nice in Polish, 'obojniak' doesn't, so I understand why people would stick to the first one, even if it's not 100% accurate to use.
