Decisions, Decisions...

The last three weeks have been very tumultuous and stressful...trying to figure out what I'm doing next year. At first, Richmond Ballet's trainee program seemed good but I found out that only second years get to take company class and you arent guaranteed to be in company productions. They also have a lot of trainees so it just seemed like not that great.

Then I went home for spring break which was very fun and relaxing. Over that break, I auditioned at Ballet Theater of MD in Annapolis. I did really well and they seemed to like me. When I got back to NY that next week I received a packet that said I had been offered an apprentice contract and got really excited. It was near home and everything and it just seemed really cool because id get to take company class three times a week and be in all their shows. Plus the director really liked me so I had pretty much decided on going there.

This past weekend, a bunch of us from the Joffrey School here in NY went to Chicago to audition for trainee spots at the Joffrey Ballet in Chicago (where the company is located)...the 09-10 school year is the first year of the trainee program and they were only accepting 20 students, so it seemed like it'd be better than the trainee program here in NY or at Richmond. Low and behold I got in. The audition was the hardest I think I've ever taken and it was really long. All of the pointework was turns and they had a big emphasis on whether you could do fouettes or not. Lots of jumps too...but that's Joffrey i guess...athletic and fierce and whatnot. So anyways...I loved the building/studios (they are brand new) and the class so I've decided that I might as well take this chance. You can only be in it til you're 20, so this is the last year I'd get to do it. Plus the director in Annapolis said that most of her apprentices are post college and her company members are mid to late 20s. Only like one other apprentice is 19 there. So I figured I might as well take this opportunity and get another year of training at Joffrey where the company is and see how that goes. I believe that I get to take company class there sometimes and we will be in some of the Joffrey shows if they can work it out with the union so that's really exciting...the Joffrey company is AMAZING!

I decided that I would go to BTM in Annapolis for their summer course and get a feel for their program and see if I like it. I explained to the director that I was really interested in her company/apprentice program but that I wanted to take this opportunity that I could only do this year and get more training and that I would come back and audition again in 2010. This seemed like a good strategy to me...get this woman to like me in MD over the summer then audition again next winter after I've been at Joffrey and get more experience.

So that's my life now...Chicago is pretty far away but I'll make it work...plus Elizabeth and Carolina and our friend Ariel are all going too so I can have my same roomies again!! and Elizabeth is from Chicago so she already knows everything about it and where to go and stuff...she can make sure we get a good apt too when she's home in August.

I hope this is a good decision and it seemed like the best strategy for me right now...Now im just looking forward to Cotillion this weekend at Arcadia and getting to come home in a WEEK for Easter!!!! :-)

This is really long I just realized but hopefully you aren't too bored with my life decisions lol

I love you all!!! <3
