My problem with CWTS classes isn't in the ideology being perptuated, but rather in the way the ideology or the "facts" are being spread. It's like they don't want students to have opinions other than theirs, especially if that opinion greatly contradicts their own. I have absolutely nothing against giving back to society, in fact it's the very reason why I want to remain in the country and be a journalist, but these classes are turning off more students than inspiring them. If you really want to get them involved, talk about the issues instead of lecturing the students and saying how bad and hopeless the current government is. In fact, even discussions in classes tend to be a crash course in millitant activism. Encourage students to say their opinions and have a discussion not look at them as if they're the spawn of the devil. Documentaries can't do all your work for you, speak the fuck up.
And if there is field work, at least ensure that the students don't feel as if they are obligated to help. Make them want to help. Otherwise the whole point of the class is moot.
Also, try to stick to scheldules, because not everyone spends their Saturdays sitting at home.
