So yes it was an alternate universe, what's new? (spoilers!)

Admittedly, Voyager is my favorite series, but every Trek fan has a soft spot Kirk and his crew so the new movie was exciting. Yet at the same time head 'spoldey. Yup, it was full on Star Trek alright ( Read more... )

why is it a cop-out? what is it copping out from?

i like the fact that abrams just decided, "look, we're not out to re-do classic Trek, so let's not pretend this is going to be anything like classic Trek okay?" it's the best of both worlds. what happened before is left untouched and we can start all over, without the heavy continuity clogging the series.

at the very least, it's better than lucas' return to star wars after 20 years saying "look, this is MY vision, and if I say that Jar Jar Binks is a hero of Naboo, Jar Jar Binks is a hero of Naboo."

Because I thought it was a redo, and at some point marketed as such, so the AU was a bit of a cop out.

But I appreciate that it's an AU, that way everything that's happened is still safe. And yes, better than any of the Star Wars prequels.

A "re-do" by definition, IS an "AU", When you do over something, you don't do it over the exact same way, otherwise what's the point?

I don't understand how you ever thought that this was going to be a true blue prequel. I never saw it being marketed as such. The fact that before this the franchise was pretty much destroyed thanks to "Enterprise" pretty much sealed that deal.

I must've misinterpreted the marketing materials then.

This movie though will definitely restart the franchise. So I guess a Voyager movie is out of the question

I just found that Anton Yelchin (Chekov)'s parents are figure skaters. I like him even more hahaha
