I am not one of those I will switch from Microsoft because they are evil, corporate and capitalist people. In fact I love Microsoft. I love them for their learning programs, their support to fight the war against human trafficking, their user-friendly office system, and on a really shallow note, they give really nice bags during their presscons.
But really, the number of hidden problems that come out when you use them is fucking annoying. (And now, because I have written that, my laptop will suddenly crash or something equally vengefull like that because we all know how much technology hates me)
The mom in a panic uses my laptop to send her column (which was unsuccessful because apparently the locks the kuya put on our wifi was not enough to deter signal stealers, or something like that) so when my welcome and log off screen went the office way, I naturally blamed her. But, miraculously, she didn't do anything except stress me out at work.
Google is love because in one keyword search I found the cause of the problem.
Client Services for NetWare. A built in package in most Windows XP computers for Novell or Novell based networking systems. One that not all offices use. But this little pack that I don't need magically caused a problem. And I mean magically because it literally happened by magic.
The last time Toshi was shut down it was the nice normal classic 3 button shut down window. Then when I turned Toshikins on, suddenly I am required to place a log in name and password, even if there is only one user in the computer and no password has been set. In panic (because that drop down menu was reminding me of the office) I wanted to change it back. But that little pack prevented me. So, as per the number of people with the same problem's suggestion, I uninstall it.
Some users in some forums have likened the pack to an appendix. It's there, you don't really need to use it, but it causes problems.
So really Microsoft, to make me love you more (and to make me interested to write about the millions you are giving away or if you're building another plant in the country) stop these random magical problems now.
Because OpenOffice is getting better and more user-friendly and I've already given up on IE.
