Oh lookie I wrote fic. It's not just any fic, it's figure skating fic. It's not just any figure skating fic, it's slash. Well sort of. I guess it could be slash.
It's been a while and I'm hella rusty. Which means the fic sounded really good in my head when the plot bunny hopped into my head before falling asleep (and when I was writing it in a cafe, how Rowling of me, before a job interview) but really, I don't think it's as good as I can make it. And I'm not even fishing here.
Anyway clicky-click.And I should finish this PR exam so I don't look incompetent in my job interview tomorrow.
Fic: Easy to Think of Your Enemies
Author:
ballerynnaDisclaimer: Did not happen. Except for Evan and Tanith being in Paris, Stephane moving to Wayne and Johnny loving Starbucks. Everything else I made up.
Pairing: Evan/ Tanith, implied Johnny/ Stephane, squint and you'll see Evan/ Johnny. And some Jouby/ underwear :D
Note: The Eiffel Tower skating rink actually closed on January 23, but I couldn't think of another skating rink in Paris aside from the one in Gigi and I'm not even sure that one exisits. Also, I haven't written fic in years. As in my last fic was during senior year in HS and I've just graduated from college. In other words, this is all new to me again...
Extra Note: For non- FS fans (which is most of my flist) some background. Evan Lysacek is the current US Men's Singles Gold Medallist, Johnny Weir is the Silver Medallist but he has the same exact score as Evan (244.77). Stephane Lambiel is a Swiss figure skater who switched coaches because he finished 5th at Worlds (he won it twice already). To know more about them read

Easy to Think of your Enemies
When Evan hears about Stephane Lambiel changed coaches he worries a little. After all, if a year with Galina Zmievskaya and Viktor Petrenko could make Johnny Weir turn a disaster into a World’s Bronze Medal (and very nearly beat him at Nats) what could it do to Lambiel? He was hoping (and with him probably the majority of elite Men’s Single’s skaters in the world) that the announcement people were talking about would be Lambiel’s retirement. One less man to worry in the race for that all important gold. One less voice to compete with in the media.
Frank tells him not to worry.
“You’re in Paris Evan. The most romantic city for people in love. Have fun with Tanith. Don’t think about your competitors.”
He agrees and sees Tanith beckoning to him from the lobby of the hotel. She eagerly points out the view from their hotel. And he thinks, yes, there’s no time to worry right now.
As they climbed up the Eiffel Tower they pass by the skating rink that was built there.
Tanith laughs and jokes, “Wanna bet Joubert is there showing off that he can jump this high up in the air? Ooh maybe he’s doing it in his undies.”
Staring at the ice Evan doesn’t hear his girlfriend. Instead his mind travels back to the US. Lambiel would probably be on the ice right now, he thinks. Petrenko would put his two star students through drills as Zmievskaya yells at them to move faster. Lambiel tries his axel, and falls. Petrenko asks Johnny to demonstrate a proper axel and of course he sticks one and even eases into a ride-out that lasts longer than it should have. Stick it Lambiel. But then Lambiel shows Johnny the new spin contortions he’s invented and teaches it to him. Pretty soon they’d have the best of each other. This mind drift is starting to annoy Evan.
“Babe, I’m sorry for talking about Joubert’s underwear. I promise never to do that again.” Tanith says. Evan is brought out of his imagination. He smiles down at her.
“It’s alright. You’re not the first girl he’s tried to dazzle.”
Tanith drags him to him to one of the cafés dotting the Paris streets, insisting that a proper visit to the city is not complete without real French coffee. And the only place to get that she says is in a real Paris café. Evan hasn’t the heart to point out that they were served French coffee from a French café during breakfast.
At first it’s easy to forget about the two. Conversation flows between him and Tanith; they talk about maybe adopting a dog (which Evan thinks is a bad idea, who’d take care of the poor guy when they’re competing?). Tanith mentions needing new cushions for her new apartment; Evan says she should just buy a new couch.
But when Evan catches a whiff of the coffee being served to them, he vaguely hears Tanith gush about the new music that Linichuk chose for her and Ben. His mind drifts back to New Jersey.
Right now Lambiel and Johnny would be finished with their practice. Johnny invites Lambiel for some coffee at his favorite Starbucks. Then for dinner. Of course the fact that his new training partner is still living in a hotel because the coaching change went by so fast, he would offer up the spare in the apartment. Lambiel is so happy because at least now he is not going to be sleeping on scratchy sheets every night. Johnny cooks up some low fat chicken to put in their salad. They eat. And by the next day they are so happy about their new training situation that they fire off quad after quad, Lambiel finally lands a 3A before he falls again and Johnny is starting to spin a little bit faster too.
Tanith takes his hand and suddenly he is back in the real world.
“What’s wrong, Ev? Your coffee’s getting cold.”
He looks down at his coffee and smiles at her. Even in a place like Paris, with somebody you love, it’s so easy to think about your enemies. But he won’t tell her that. No, not a chance.
As he lies in bed he allows himself to think again. He thinks of the possibilities, of what it would it mean to him.
Maybe they will start fighting. For ice time. For their coaches attention (and Johnny does love undivided attention), for a great many things. They could help each other out there and win all the medals or they could destroy each other and Stephane is left in the cutting room floor out of New Jersey forever. Evan thinks then he won’t have to see Johnny smile dazzlingly up at Stephane Lambiel.
As he drifts off to sleep, he desperately hopes it is the latter.
