“Stand like a man, move like a legend. Talk but with action, that’s how you’ll be remembered.”

What does it mean to grow older? I’m 28, nearly 30, but age seems surreal. I was born in 1983. I graduated from high school 10 years ago. I earned my BA in English & Psychology in 2005, and I earned my MFA in Creative Writing in 2007. & yet: I feel as I have always felt. Young & restless but deep-rooted and old-souled.

“As time goes on, you’ll understand. What lasts, lasts; what doesn’t, doesn’t. Time solves most things. And what time can’t solve, you have to solve yourself.”

There is grace in forgiveness. Perhaps this is the joy of age: understanding more of the self. Broken hearts, rough-edged mistakes: perhaps forgiveness is catching more than just reflecting light. It’s difficult for my stubborn heart & mind, but I am learning to “do good anyway,” even when people fail me or hurt me. What is goodness but generosity of the heart?

However, what separates us from generosity and being taken advantage of? Does this latter entity matter? I want to be good no matter what. I want to give & give, but can we give until we have nothing left?
