Last night I beat Final Fantasy VII, and it was only the second time I've played the game all the way through. Honestly, rather than feeling nostalgic or overly drawn to the story I'm simply relieved to be done. I clocked over 100 hours this time so I could max out all the characters and beat the weapons. By the end I think it's safe to say that I got sick of it. I even re-watched the famous death scene to try to engage my emotions a bit before beating it, but it only worked somewhat. Two things really tarnished the whole "beating it again" experience: the first was that Sephiroth, even with his major HP boost because of my characters being level 99, was painfully easy. Using 4x cut with Barret and Cloud and with Tifa healing made the battle quite quick. I didn't even equip knights of the round, in hopes that the battle would be difficult, but alas it was not. Also, it wasn't as great to watch the ending again as I thought it'd be because I've seen it so many times. Regretfully, I used to return to my save game just before Sephiroth many times in order to see the ending, so it wasn't as refreshing as I thought it'd be.
However! It feels very good to have beaten Emerald and Ruby weapon, and now when someday I return to the game yet again (though hopefully it'll be a remaid version), I can play it just for the story and not worry about breeding chocobos and spending 20 hours leveling up. Boy, that got annoying. Here's a thought, Square-Enix: In future games, include a ton of optional dungeons as the core of your sidequests. That way you can explore something new while leveling up, instead of walking around the damned sunken ship for hours on end.
I sound bitter, but I'm not. I fucking love Final Fantasy VII. Let's just say I've satisfied my need for playing it...probably for years to come. Now it's time to turn my attention to Advent Children, which (this is for you, Bob) I've decided to wait on for the American dvd release. I decided that I want to watch it with the official translation and with as high of quality video as possible. However, Bob, I'm looking forward to watch that bonus feature...what was it called, Long Order or something?
In other news, I'm thinking about playing Dragon Quest VIII. I hear it's pretty epic, and it couldn't hurt to get into another major rpg series. Double the games to look forward to!
For those of you who read this whole entry, I commend you. Either you're supremely interested in what I have to ramble about or you're big rpg/Final Fantasy fans, and either way that's a plus in my book. So long!
