We went for a drive to Soldotna yesterday, and while Soldotna was perhaps the most boring town on the face of the earth, most of the drive was gorgeous. To think that the awe-inspiring Kenai peninsula is but a small portion of such a vast state! Were I an aspiring mountain man, I think I'd want to live here forever. As it stands, though, I don't like the general politics of Alaska, nor do I like its general public.* We'll probably be here for one to three more years or so, and in that time I plan to make heavy use of Alaska's outdoors during spring, summer, and fall. Perhaps someday when I've achieved my goals and can afford a couple of houses, I'll have a cabin up here to which to retreat every summer.
It's just nice to be able to appreciate Alaska, when for so long I've hated and resented it.
I snapped several photos while on the drive to Soldotna and back, and a few of them turned out pretty cool so hopefully I'll some posted pretty soon.
*While the general public is horrible everywhere, it's actually worse in Alaska than in a lot of places.
