Ubuntu, running on the netbook (a Dell Mini 9 that was available at a tempting discount recently), has just announced that it wants to download 240MB of updates. This is a little unsettling, given comments I've seen before from Ubuntu users about things breaking after upgrades -- a quarter of a gig sounds like a substantial infrastructure update!

That said, the last update it installed (much smaller) included the fix for the rather weird "telnet/SSH connections won't work until VLAN tagging is explicitly disabled" issue that was the first thing I discovered when I turned the machine on. So maybe it won't be so bad.
