Dude! *flails* What a ride. You got me from the word go. That feel of slight detachment and disorientation and those overwhelming odds against him, you establish it beautifully (if that was indeed, what you were going for - otherwise please to ignore my ignorant ramblings). How closely and delicately you cut and time things to the music, all those intricate bits - I always absolutely love how you do that. And those bits where you hold off and it slows down a bit especially have an awesome underlying driving tension.
Love Franka's grin at 0:43 (what was her character called again?), those jump cuts at 0:53, and omfg the car chase. Especially those big movements to the little sounds. That's wicked! And those parts where you zoom in a bit I think, and desaturate? Give me shivers. Very, very cool! 2:23 ff is just fantastic, and the ending quite the sucker punch, of course. I absolutely love that bit of cutting you do there from around 3:12 and on - those jarring movements work incredibly well to make the point. Oh, and it looks cool :)
What I do not understand, is how you don't end up with a horrible, no good mess on your hands, given how much you have going on here O.o but you really just don't. It's a wonderful vid, and I for one have to go rec it now.
"That feel of slight detachment and disorientation and those overwhelming odds against him, you establish it beautifully" A feel of disorientation is exactly what I was going for. He's lost and the women in his life are the only things he can hold on to but he still has to watch them go. Thanks for your compliment about my musicality it means a lot. Franka's character is called Marie. Her grin at 00:43 lights up the mood a little after we see Nicky crying at 00:42. I worked hard on the car chase so I'm glad you enjoyed it. The zoom/black & white part is the first part I saw in my head before I made the vid. I just HAD to do it that way don't ask me why. I always thought that back-hand punch looked good that's why I used it at the end of the fighting sequence. That was the finishing blow :) Bourne can never rest he has to keep running that's what I wanted to show in the last sequence. Yeah when you use a trilogy like that you can easily end up with an incoherent vid that makes no sense but I knew exactly what I wanted to make before I even cut the first clip so maybe that's why it's not messy. Don't be sorry feedback is never too long ;) and thanx for the rec!
Marie *facepalm* that's right. Thanks. Also 'I knew exactly what I wanted to make before I even cut the first clip so maybe that's why it's not messy.' Yeah, a good inspirational starting point is a very good thing to have. No doubt. But to pull it off this beautifully? I'll stop now before I leave a flailing mess all over your lj ;) Thanks again for sharing, this one is a keeper for sure.
