Our home inspection was fine, and we got the Radon test results back today, and they were fine, too. So, the only thing we have left to do is review the HOA documents, they're the last contingency in our contract. We've been approved for our mortgage, our check for earnest money was cashed today (holy crap, was that painful), and we signed a ton of mortgage papers.
After we have possession of the house, we need to paint ASAP, clean and seal all the tiled floors, have the carpet cleaned (the owners had a cat and
tincow and I are both allergic), and then move in! That way we can avoid paying rent and mortgage at the same time for more than a month. I'm not so excited about cleaning and sealing, but I can't wait to paint. I've lived with boring walls for too long! I want a green kitchen!
I've also picked out a food processor. We don't have much counter or storage space in our apartment, so I've made due with a mini-prep, but it just doesn't work on stuff like cheese, nuts, soups, or sauces. The blender can be used for some of these, but I'd love to have a real food processor. So, once we're moved in, I'm getting a Cuisinart 14 cup stainless steel food processor with all the bells and whistles. I can't wait to use it!
One of my friends showed me
this site, which lets me mess around with paint colors. It's insanely addictive, and it got me thinking. My main concern with the second floor is that the living room is painted a red color. The paint is kind of scratched up from where the owners' furniture hit the walls. I actually really like the idea of a burgundy living room, it goes well with my craving for a brown leather couch and my love of dark wood furniture. So, I would like to re-paint the living room a nice burgundy color.
However, I also want a sage or jade green kitchen, and red + green = Christmas to me, no matter what the hue. The living room and dining room are part of an open floor plan, so they're separated by a column. Through the dining room wall, you can see the kitchen; the three rooms are all in a row, basically. Except, there is a wall between the dining room and kitchen, and you can see into the kitchen from the dining room and living room through a doorway. I'm worried that if I have a burgundy living room, a neutral dining room, and a green kitchen, it will look like Christmas, which will drive me batshit.
